Good Enclosure

Looking for a good enclosure for my Ball. Right now he is a little guy in a 10G, but I am trying to plan ahead for the future. Is Neodesha Plastics still producing the plastic enclosures?

Any suggestions? Looking for something with glass or plexi, not screens.

a neodesha is a little bit of overkill for a ball (and expensive), or so says Justin every time he sees my male bp in one.... lol

For the future, I like to suggest (if you only have one) of getting a malamine enclosure with sliding glass front. They keep humidity well and are VERY cheap to have made, and can look very nice.

Right now I am using melamine cages for my balls, though I do planto have some nicer cages built (so they look like furniture and can be set up in the living room).

They do hold great humidity, our bps never have a problem with shedding :D

Where do I find the melamine? I am prety handy and can probably build one, and I should have some time before he outgrows his 10g.

I built my current stand and hood for my 125g reef tank so hopefully working with the melamine and glass will not be that difficult.

If there is someone making nice melamine cages I would be interested in knowing who that is also.

One other question, off topic, the little guy took his first mouse. I know they need some time to digest... How long before I handle him. I am ready to get rid of the paper towels and put in some more natural looking substrate.

Well the simplest solution is to go with what Jeff "Rubbermaid" Favelle suggested. Nothing is cheaper or better suited to BPs than these wonderful plastic containers. On the other hand if you aren't ranching snakes at this point, as Jeff and others are, or if you only have the one and wouldn't mind being able to see it sometimes without having to disturb it by pulling the lid off, a custom cage is the way to go. Check the Enclosures forum for some very good plans and step by step instructions. You can apply these plans to melamine or plywood or whatever you want.

If you want to see your snake and have it on display for viewing purposes, I'd suggest not getting a nocturnal, subterranean snake, LOL! Doesn't make sense to me. Its like getting a display earthworm. What's the point?

Hey, I never said it was the best snake to put on display, I just suggested a way that it could be efficiently caged while still allowing you to see inside. Most plastic tubs aren't exactly transparent, it's like looking through a shower door.

I have snakes in rubbermaids and aquariums as well as melamine cages and I personally like being able to check on or observe my animals without the intrusive act of pulling the roof off their home. That is the only drawback to the rubbermaid solution. It's not a real big drawback admittedly, but more of a matter of preference, I just like to be able to see them without banging around with their cage to do it.

Of course there is this growing pile of empty aquariums in my spare bedroom, it turns out that the desire to have more snakes dominates the desire to see the ones I have. You can have a lot more rubbermaid tubs in a given space than aquariums so as the compulsion to get more snakes begins to eat up available space, bulky aquariums naturally get phased out.

That is of course, except for my prized, purebred show worms. Those babies are front and centre in the living room with full spectrum lighting glinting off their mucus coated bodies. I have a simulated sidewalk in there and I just spray them down to simulate rain and within minutes there they are, writhing on the pavement in all their glory. It just wouldn't be right to miss all of that by stashing them away in semi-opaque plastic tubs now would it?

You guys kill me. Ken Lepage aka. Invictus is going to build me a melamine rack and 2 large enclosures as well for a very decent price. He had one cage on display at the red deer show and it looked very nice. I intend to use the individual enclosures for breeding tanks when I get to that stage. He is in Calgary.
