Anybody know what kind of caterpillar this is?? its about 3 inches long and about an inch around.

I don't have a clue what I'm talking about, but that reminds me of what I thought a swallowtail catterpiller looked like. What kind of plant did you find it on?

It wasn't on a plant just crawling up the side of my house, I've never seen one like it before and can't find a pic of anything that looks like it anywhere.

that's a tough one. i think it is an imperial moth, but would be better able to tell with a pic taken from the side. imperials are found in southeastern canada and can be as big as 4 inches. they eat lots of different types of leaves, such as elm, oak, maple, birch, linden, walnut, cedar and pine. become big pretty moths. hmm. . . not sure.
