I have never owned an Emerald Tree Boa, but I think that they are increadible. I was wondering how they react to being handled. Are they nice and lathargic or are they mean and bite easily. I'm tempted to get one but I like to research them for a few months first. Thanks for any help.

They can range from downright unhandlable to completely tame. Just depends on the specimen.

Totally a gamble. Just know that if you do get tagged it hurts. They have extremely long teeth.

You need to define "handling". ;) In my experience, every emerald in our collection is handlable, however we don't have them out for extended periods of time.

I don't handle my ETB too much because it causes stress... I've never been bitten by mine but i've seen the teeth and it's enough!!!

RYAN:

They can range from puppy dog tame to very aggressive, but they are also very easily stressed as well. When it comes to handling Emeralds the less the better. My whole collection has different attitudes but I leave them alone for most of the time. If I need to handle them for inspection, sexing or moving from cage to cage that is about it....anything like showing people the Emerald or playing with it is not recommended at all, that would be excessive.

My 2 cents...

Very true Craig. I would think in most cases handling means taking it out on a regular basis as a pet. For say a breeder, handling doesn't mean the same..;)
