So I went to feed my new ball (still nameless) his first F/T meal. He had a live mouse 5 days ago before I took him home from the store. Today I gave him a F/T large mouse and he took it down no problem. I wish I had some idea of how old he is. I would say he is about 1.5 feet long. But all seems good and he has retired to his warm hide to digest.

Congrats, try to get him started on rats asap. I suspect that this thread will be moved to the Ball Python forum.

Yeah, realized after I posted it that I put it in the wrong place. I am not sure what size rat to get. What compares to a large mouse?

Incidentally, I have noticed that since eating, he has been all over his tank exploring rather than curling up in his hot hide to digest. Does this mean his meal was too small and he is on the prowl for food? I am planning on switching him to rats next week.

Offer him a rat that is the width of the largest part of his body. F/k or F/T is would be the safest method of feeding. Good Luck!
Without a pic, I would estimate an 18-inch ball to be an early '04 hatchling. I would also suggest you get him on rats ASAP. I would think a 25-40g rat (large hopper, small weanling depending on where you get him) should do the trick.
