I got an egg!

I was cleaning my room out when I peaked in to my Satanic Tank and found an egg stuck to a dead leaf. I looks infertile, soft but nice and calcified. hopefully her next batch are fertile! I'm glad my 1.2 group are breeding I thought I would need to introduce another male.

Congrats, at least you know she's in breeding condition. The trouble with uroplatus is that they always bury fertile eggs, but drop infertile ones wherever they may be. That egg won't be fertile. I've never had one fertile egg that wasn't buried or at least underneath something on floor level.

I've been trying to get the march 2004 reptile magazine with the article on breeding phantasticus. At least I know they're getting it on!

I don't have them anymore, but I had them back in the late 90's. After limited success breeding them, I gave all the uroplatus to someone who was making a serious effort to breed them. The fimbriatus laid fertile eggs, and I even got 3 to hatch. Two of them died before 6 months, one female made it to 18 months and went to the new home along with the parents. I never got any of the other species hatchlings to live past 3-4 months (sikorae, phantasticus, ebenaui and lineatus).

I've got some pictures of the ones I had, but not many. Most of them were taken with borrowed cameras since it was way before I got my digital. I do have a few pictures in my album. If you want, I can post them on a different thread, rather than hijack yours.

That's great! I guess she was gravid afterall.:D A decent trick I use to keep track of eggs in a natural set-up is to employ 2 types of substrate. I use one on the bottom as the main substrate, then add a 1/2" - 1" layer of the second substrate over top. If they're digging, they will mix/bring up the bottom layer which makes locating the eggs easy. (obviously the 2 substrates have to have some variation in colour/consistency)

I use a thin layer of moist cocnut bark on the bottom of my tank..I'm guessing if my females lay fertile eggs they'll be burried under their favourite ficus

Yesterday I found a fertile egg underneath a ficus plant. The female was on a branch over top of it. Late last night I caught them mating! The male grabs the neck like crested geckos and holds on.
