View Full Version : run for your life!!!
Ok, today i took my beardie outside cause it was nice and warm. I usually take him outside about once a week, but hes outside of his cage in my room on my shoulder or something w/ me almost every day. As soon as we got outside he just started freaking out he puffed out his beard, flattened out to make himself bigger and opened his mouth. he jumped outa my hand and ran accross the yard and hid under my dad's backhoe. I got him out and put him back in his cage w/ fresh veggies and a cppl superworms in a deep dish. Hes still all pissed off hes sitting in the corner of his cage staring at me. You guys have ay idea what coulda scared him? or y hes so pissed off. Ive had him for about a year since he was 3inches long and now hes 19 1/2 and hes never done n e thing like this b4

This is just my opinion based on past experiences with my beardeds but here is my 2 cents. Someone else may have a different aspect for you.
Beardeds are very observational. He may have seen something he protrayed as a preditor and it scared him. I have had one of my females freak out because a plane was flying over head and she ran and hid behind me. They can sence danger even when you don't see anything and this might be what happened. I'd suggest getting him in a leash before attempting to take him out again.
I had a green iggy that would do that every time i tried to take him outside. Maybe its just that they are not use to the wide open spaces and it makes they feel insecure.
heres my thoughts on it, but sometimes my male does the exact same thing, and it's always when i bring him somewhere new, or that he hasnt seen in a while ( a week can be quite a while for a beardie) and he immediately starts "freaking out" like yours did, personally i consider this a display of dominance to anything that might be able to see him! as male beardies are about as territorial as you can get with an animal my guy even does it when he's out in the living room! starts puffing up, opens his mouth, and flattens his back to make himself look more impressive, then he runs to a decent hiding spot, and starts bobbing his head like a headbanger at a metallica concert!
was there any bobbing going on? either way i wouldn't be to concerned about his behaviour at this point....just my 2 pennies!

after i got him back in his cage i left him alone for maybe 6hrs and then came back and he flaired up again when i tried to pick him up. Then i dropped a few crix in with him and right after he ate them i picked him up and he was acting normal

They go from a dull lighted relatively tiny enclosure, to seeing the intense outdoors, something it likely has never seen before - wouldn't you be freightened?

Thats why I've been bringing my babies out on a weekly basis to get used to it, because I have a huge yard and w*ould like to have a lizard to walk with me as i check my gardens and things. but everytime a car goes by no matter how far from my yard my male always shakes somethin fierce i dont know if he can sense it, hear it or what.
