Anyone know a reasonably priced heat pad that has a rheostat I think it's called (a temperature control). I'm in the process of switching over from lamps on some creatures. I bought a heat pad though a long time ago and it just sucked. It was on for two days and it only made the enclosure 1 degrees hotter than room temperature. I don't remember what kind it was, I took the piece of crap back. So it has to be one that gets nice and toasty but with a control. Thanks.

I use human heat pads from Wal-Mart... they're about 10 bucks, and come with a temp control. I couldn't tell you specific temperatures, but I can make the heat subtle, or very, very warm.

What kind of animals will you be using the heat pad for? I know some UTH's have rheostats but are expensive... I'll try and find out who makes them for you...

Hope this helped a little...

Surinam Boas (so it has to get nice and warm) and Ball pythons for now.
Thanks for your reply.

Well, I use the human heat pads for my Burm, so I think it should suffice for your snakes. I find them inexpensive, long-lasting and predictable. I wish they had the exact temps on them when heated, so you'll know if it's 70 or 170 degrees, you know? The best thing is to feel for yourself, on each 'mode'. If one is too hot, cover with substrate (Bandula, my burm, tends to uncover them... but I suppose he knows what temps are best for him) =)

Hope this helped!

You use these human ones under the tank too I assume. Thanks for your help.

I use human heat pads as well. They work great and with a room temp of 78-80 which my room stays the lowest setting on the human heat pads raises the hot spot to around 85 or 86 and the second setting is exactly 90F which is perfect for my BP's and IJ's :P

Cool. I'll have to pick up a few of those. Thanks for all the help.
