What do you think would be the cost of materials for a 4x2x2 enclosure. probably melamine, I havent decided which kinda of door i want, sliding or hinged, but i assume the tracks or the hinges are roughly the same cost. I already have a human heating pad, which i know would work fine if i made the enclosure out of melamine.

Im not worried about lighting at this point, if i ended up needing extra lighting at some point i could just build a valance to stick on the top.

so just the basic structure really, 4x2x2, glass (or other) front, sealant, that kind of stuff. Just an estimate. Thanks :)

Well a 4x8 sheet of melamine around here is about $35.

Here is a link to some nice plans,

Not exactly what you're looking for but it might give you some ideas.
Cheers,

$150-$200 materials included, assuming you have the tools.

ah thanks,

i just found HFH's thread again, and he said his bigger ones cost about 60-70 although i think his were 18 high instead of 24.

so i was thinking more about $100-120 or so using his plan. unless i am missing something?

Oh mykee, those rats you sold me have been great, the ijcp has really grown a lot, thats why im trying to get around to making the new enclosure soon haha.

interesting... so do you build them once ordered? or do you have a limited number? and what is the general design. litterdam and lip at top? any vents, lighting (easy enough to add myself) etc...

thanks, i can't guarantee anything right now because of money and stuff but I certainly am interested :)

I build them once ordered. It includes the vents, and you can add a heat lamp and rheostat for $80 (including its' housing).

EDIT : The enclosure's are just like HetForHuman's.

Although they are not melamine, my cages ended up costing roughly $84 each. They could've been made even cheaper if I had made a few different choices such as acrylic instead of polycarbonate (which 63% more expensive), spruce instead of pine (bout half the price), and left natural wood instead of painted black.

ok thanks guys, now i just have to figure out money and stuff, school is coming up and that means expenses, also have to buy a computer, but i want to get an enclosure sooner rather than later, my snakes will be at my girlfriends apartment and we would love to have something that would look nice for my ijcp instead of the rubbermaid.

Hopefully I can begin working on my other wall to add to my collection and breeders:

9 = 4X2X18"
4 = 3X2X18"
4 = 3X2X24"...hope to get some GTP's in here!

I'll also add a second baby rack to house an extra hundred neonates and a couple dozen yearling hold backs.
