View Full Version : My new Jungle Carpet Python, Ammelia
ok here are a few pics of Ammelia, taken by Syst3m, on his hand as we drove back to Detroit from the Chicago show. If anyone was there, I cannot remember the vendor, but if you were facing Bob Clark's table, this vendor would have been behind you to the left. He had a bunch of Jungles, Irian Jaya's and Madagascar tree boas. He had a laptop on top to show the parents, the dealer next to him was selling cages, and on the other side was Exoteric? or Exothermic...Something like that. Anyways here are the pics.

There ya go, she's just a young thing born June 7 2002
she's tiny.. cute but tiny
Damn you Jay! Now I have to add Jungle Carpet Pythons to my wanted list.
seems fairly tame for a hatchling too.. congrats.. and have fun watching her grow
Renee, yeah she's very tiny. I hope to change that soon. hehe
Lisa, Gorgeous aren;t they?
Jimi, yeah she is kinda tame, Very jumpy if you touch her head, she was nippy at first, but shes calmed down alot, but even when she was nippy, she only bit while trying to pick her up. I'm very happy with her
yeah they're usually fairly calm once they're in your hands... head shyness is normal but will go away (i can open my male's mouth and he doesnt care)... tail shyness is hard to overcome though. all of mine are still jumpy when you touch thier tail
Congrats! She's too cute! :D
Linds, thanks :) I'm very happy with her
Jimi, its funny you say that...shes not shy at all about her tail, just incredibally head shy. maybe that'll mean she'll totally be easy to handle, or stay really head shy. And how do you help overcome the head shyness?

I know with all my snakes, to get them over head shyness I touch the snake's head as much as possible, pet it on the head, poke it lightly in the nose...after about 10 handlings the head shyness is nearly gone...but none of my snakes were prone to biting or totally freaking out when you touched their heads, they'd just jerk away...I don't know how well it would work with a REALLY head shy snake...
Just my 2 cents

I don't think she liked me very much. :) But she is a nice looking snake.
head shyness: best to start when you take her out of the cage. Before touching her place the palm of your hand over her head and actually make contact. this is a good practice anyways because mostly any snake will be startled slightly if you just touch thier sides while thier sleeping (wouldnt you lol)... anyways.. once he's out of the enclosure just make contact with his head... if he pulls back into a strike posture, chances are you dont have to worry about them biting. its a defensive posture, not aggressive, so if you moved your hand forward he will more than likely just turn the other way. easiest is the top of the head, or the tip of the nose with the palm of your hand. head shyness is very easy to overcome... and i'm surprised to hear how well yours handles being touched on the tail. have you tried putting him into the enclosure, then touching his tail? usually they jump. carpets seem to handle more contact (like touching the head, tail, body manipulation if needed) if they are already in your hands... once they're on the ground they dont seem to take it as lightly.
hope i shedded some light on the subject for you
JIMI
i;ve not tried much with her on the ground. But in my hands. Thanks for the head shyness tips i'll try them out :)
