From what I have read on here, with new editions most people leave them alone for at least a week (no handling, only open to clean cage and change water) to give him time to settle in. then with handling he might calm down. I sure someone who knows more about them will be about to give more help. good luck with him and i hope to see some pics

Yup, at least two week aclimation then ease him into to being handled.

I use a method that gets the animal in question accustomed to your scent; which reduces the likelyhood of getting bitten (in my opinion).

I usually put a piece of 'dirty' clothing in the enclosure with a new acquisition for a week or so. The animal not only becomes familiar with your scent, but if left alone and not threatened much, will also associate your scent with comfort, quiet and peace.

I have had much success with this technique, so you may want to give it a try! Hope this helps!!

I've got a 6' nasty suri here. I'll have to leave in a pair of my boxers and if it doesn't kill him I'm sure he'll come around.lol

Ive heard of that before and tried it on a tegu. Didnt work but maybe for snakes who have a very accute sense of smell it could work better.

Good luck!

It does work, at least for me... but then again, my burm wasn't 'nasty' just frightened when I got him.

As for the boxers, Trevor, I said let them get used to your scent... Not KILL them!!!! LOL

I suggest a small shirt that has been worn once or twice. You don't want to OVERWELM them!!! LMAO!

Also, I believe it works best if you leave them alone, and don't bother them for a week or two. If you bother them, they will only associate your smell with being bothered and disturbed (makes sense). Hope it works, let me know how it goes it a week or two!! =)

While a lot of people may not agree with this (and it does depend on the size of the snake) I have always just taken the bites. The trick is to not pull back or react. The snake will eventually realize that it doesn’t have an effect. I may have just been lucky with all the snakes I’ve had, and yes I’ve had some bad bites, but ALL of my snakes have become super docile using this method.
