Hi,
I was just wondering if someone could tell me this..... when you buy or trade a snake or lizard or whatever with someone and you post a picture of the animal do you say where you got it from weather or not the person that you got it from was the breeder?? and if you dont why not???
I am asking becasue if i post a picture of what i have bought i always post where i got it from weather they are the breeder or not and the reason for that is because weather they were the breeder it was still their animal and that is the right thing to do(well i think so) but i guess when you think you are bigger and better then others you forget how you started out. but people should remember if it was not for the little guys you would not be a big man on campus. anyways just my opinion.
I think the breeders of the animals whose photos have been posted should be given credit; however, it's really up to the individual whether they would do that or not. I have seen several people on here post photos of their animals and mention which breeder they recieved them from.
As for where I got my animals...
Most of the pets I have are rescues I've decided to keep, (for vaious reasons). My leos are all pets that I've bought from a friend, with the exception of one who I got from a petstore (not what you think... I repeatedly go to a terrible petstore and try to get the owner to take better care of his animals... during one of my 'inspections' I saw this lovely leo and found out that she had been traded in a few days before). I obviously didn't want her to suffer the conditions there, so I bought her. Her name is Freckles... you might have seen one of the million pix I've posted of her here. My leos are really the only pets I have that I haven't rescued... The other two are from a friend of mine who breeds them.
My African Plated Lizard, Dahli; Burmese python, Bandula and Box Turtle, Mike are all rescues. I also have a dog, Sadie, whom I recently rescued and a pet Praying Mantis, a gift from my fiance.
I think that when people post pics of their animals, they just want to show off their animals and tend to forget or not even thinking of posting who the breeder was. Personally, I don't really think about "who" I got a herp from. Although, I do remember where each and every one of my animals comes from. If someone is interested in knowing who produced an animal I've posted a pic of, they can just ask me.
It's not about being "big man on campus" it's just about showing off the animals, not name dropping, not rubbing shoulders, not my stock is Mr. Big Name.
Besides, maybe the breeder doesn't want their name plastered all over the place, for whatever odd reason.

no you guys are getting it all wrong,my question is when you get a animal from someone and you post say on a website here are my new babies and you say what they are and when you got them and who you got them from but you post the name of the breeder and not the person that you acully got the animal from. for instance i buy a gecko from you KATT and the breeder was SAMBA, will if i was posting a picutre and saying where and when i got the gecko i would say that i got the gecko from KATT and that the breeder was SAMBA, not that i got the gecko from SAMBA because to me it is rude, you did not get it from the breeder. I am not saying that the breeder should not be posted but just because you think you are a big breeder does not mean you should forget where you started and who sold you the animal. It is like the person that you sold it to thinks they are higher then you and dont want anyone to know where the animal came from. I know that people post new animal to show off the news one. I do that all the time i am just asking a question.
As long as people dont misrepresent what they have, I dont see how it matters what they say. If I had Don Patterson's stock (I wish...someday your Bredli will be mine muhahahaha!), I would say that no matter who I bought it from. If I had a reason to mention the middle man (great service for example) then I would do so. I would never say I got it from DP if I didn't though.
As long as nothing is misrepresented, like rwg said, then I don't think it matters.
I often post where I got the animal from, and the breeder, if the information is available. I do this because I think breeders can ALL use some free advertising, and I like to use a mention of their name with the animals photo as a small thanks. It's always nice to see someone happy with a snake you sold them as well.

I agree hole hartedly. As long as no one is misrepresenting their animals it doesn't really matter. I sometimes will put the middle man on my website if I know them, but sometimes I get animals at shows for cash or trade and dont get or dont remember the name of the middle man, only who the original breeder was. Some animals I have I don't even know who the original breeder was because it was bought off of someone that didn't know or that got it at a pet store.
I do the same as many other people here, if I know the breeder I will often post who's stock it originally came from.

I'll ask you the same question then cause you both have ridiculous grammar and spelling.
It's amusing really.

ib_inked, is there a reason you are asking such a off the subject question? Or did i spell something wrong. Really does it matter where i went to school but i will tell you anyways being that you are sooooo curious. I went to George Brown College and have 3 degrees. 2 in computer business and computer support and 1 in the medical field. hope that is the answer you were looking for and please dont come up with something like" oh well you should go back to learn how to spell" hahahahaha.

Okay children, let's settle down.. No need to make fun about the way people type.. There's a thread about this somewhere in the General Discussion if you want to talk about that further..
Lizlady, 9/10 times i will post both the breeder and who i got the animal from (if different from the breeder) provided i know who bred the animal :D

Now he tells us! lol
Every time I buy from one of Canada's best I always drop their name when I post the animal's pics. It adds credibility to my collection when people know it's made up of the best available stock in Canada. Makes it easier for me to sell possible albino hets when people know my 100% came from Patterson. Or when I breed and sell Nuclear Kenyans people will know they are in fact Nuclear because they came from Roy the founder of the line. When the day come that I sell Jungle they will be from Favelle stock.
Why should I reinvent the wheel when so much of what I want to work with is already being worked with by some of our best.
Also when ever possible I only buy from dedicated Canadian breeders. I pay more but I always know what I'm getting. These people have reputations they want to up hold and they are only as good as their last sale so you always get the best of everything.
Cheers,
Trevor

If ya didn't breed it why should the person get credit for the animal? I mean most majior breeders put alot of effort in to thier lines. Look at Mr. Favelle His lines are awsome and it took alotta work to get it that way so I give majior props to them :)

They don't deserve credit for producing the animal, but I almost always mention who I purchased the animal from, regardless of whether they bred it. There is much more involved than just producing the animal, such as maintaining a healthy animal and having an excellent business transaction. There are many people out there who are NOT good to deal with, I will most certainly give credit to those who are.

Thanks Linds, that was what i meant. I think that if you have raised the animal and then for whatever reason sell it then the person that buys it should say that you were the person that cared for it but ABC was the breeder. becuase it helps the person that sold the animal to sell again and get a name for themself to.Hey Paul not nice

I'm with Linds. The middle man is important. Just because a snake was bred by the best breeder in Canada or the world for that matter, it doesn't mean that the middle man is the best keeper in Canada or the world.

It's a good idea to keep track of who the middle man is simply because you may purchase something thinking it's a product of a high end breeder, only to find out that breeder has not sold any of those animals to the middleman in question, or has only begun selling them to others recently enough that there is no possible way the middleman would have it.
This gives the breeder the opportunity to refute the origin of the animal in question.
Not that underhandedness seems nearly as prevalent within the Canadian market as that of the much larger American market. Fauna's BOI just boggles my mind :)
