Can't Find Any Snakes

I have been looking for snakes a lot recently and haven't found any. I live in Southern California and have gone fielding at least ten times, each at least a couple hours each time, usually about five hours. We go to the desert often because we ride motorcycles but when were not riding were looking for snakes. We have a field guide and look in good places(seems like) and at the right times and find nothing! Please if anyone knows a good area that we can find and photograph them, I'd be willing to post pictures:D .

What time do you look? Try going late in the evening, search near the roads or on any kind of rock surfaces which should still be warm from the sun. This info is not from experience, but ive seen a tv show of these people herping in so. california. It seemed pretty successful for them. Be careful, lots of rattlers, you dont wanna be tagged by one in the middle of the desert. But im sure you know that. :D Thanks,
