View Full Version : Update: babies out
Well, the babies are finally out from my pastel to albino breeding, and there are 4 pastel het albinos and 3 het albinos. Here is a pic of them in a big ball o' balls:

Turns out I've got 4.0 pastel hets and 0.3 hets. That's gonna put a big kink in this project, looks like I'll attempting to trade/sell two of these male pastel het for albinos. If anyone is interested, please PM me. It also seems that these pastels are different, from any of my others, they look almost a see-through peach. This pic is of a female pastel I produced that hatched two weeks ago, next to one of the new pastel het albino boys:

THat's PERFECT man. Trade TWO of the pastel het males for yearling female or adult female ALBINO balls. That's the way to do it man! Make the female the homo recessive and make the male the co-dom/het recessive. It won't get you super albinos, but with the trade value of pastel het albino, you can get OLDER albino females. This way, you can do the cross in 1-1.5 years. As opposed to raising up a female pastel het albino for 3 years.
I think you got great odds. For sure. The keys to co-dom/recessive crosses lies in homozygous females. It can be done any way, but that's the way I would do it (cost effectiveness and TIME).
Congrats bro! :D

Nice snakes.
I admit I had a bit of a chuckle when I read the ratio. I'd like to see a pastel-albino as much as anyone else but the irony was overwhelming. I think Mr. Favelle's got the right Idea though, that's die-hard optimism right there. Hope you're the first, I'm sure you'll keep us posted.

Good stuff Mykee! Are you selling a pair of these pastels?
Cheers,

How can he sell a pair if he got 4.0?? :p
Trevor; I'm looking to sell of trade a pair (that's 2 Jeff). Ralph Davis has one left from 4 male pastel het albinos on his site for sale for $15000 U.S. and Graziani sold 2 males last year for $7500-$8000 U.S, so we'll see what happens.
Jeff; Exactly what I was thinking. 3 years to raise a female up to breed though?! Unheard of!! The mother of this clutch was 19 mos. when she laid me 8 eggs, 1 slug, and I'll have 9 other sub-two year olds ready to go this year.

Yeah, but that's still TWO seasons, whereas for 2 pastel het albino males ($30K US), one would think that you could get 2 or 3 (try like FIVE) adult ALBINO females and do it NEXT year (ala 8 months from now). I think you got the best ratio possible man.
I was so bummed out last night as I was sexing them, and quite honestly, still am a little bummed. I was really hoping for this project to be completely autonomous. Seems like I'm going to have to "shop" these little guys around....

Ouch... perhaps it really is a good sign from the odd gods though? That much quicker to get off the ground! I feel for you man! Ah well, it looks like you'll do just fine anyways!
