View Full Version : Children's and housing together?
Ok i have never housed any of my snakes together just because all the obvious reasons one should not which i will not list because most already know.
I was reading up on Children's Pythons because I plan to get a 1.1 pair for breeding. I found a website that states the following:
Adults can be kept together year round in pairs or threes (one male and two females). Stimson’s pythons may need to be separated and introduced in spring to stimulate breeding
Found @ http://australiantropicalreptiles.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=16
I was wondering would it be ok to house 2 of these together in a 3x2x1 cage when they are full grown as the article says. I have read many sites with content of why you shouldnt house snakes together and I currently dont but this is a dif topic lol. Whats your take on this article and the text it holds.

one word NO
They tend to eat each other.
Their feeding response is well, lets say "dynamic"
I've had them strike and constrict water bowls, hooks,me, each other.....
I had to toss a pair in the bathtub this spring to separate them after a breeding attempt turned into
a dinner date
Wow lol ok nevermind. Always nice to check with others than to except and belive stupid content on the I-net.
Thanks a bunch Stockwell.
lol thats all i got to say

That is sooo cool :D Just made me want them even more.
Hey Stockwell, What size cages do you keep the adults in or do you use a rack and if so what size tubs? I know they dont need 3' cages but thats what i was planing on buying for them when adult size sets in. Since you seem to know much about them and obviously breed them i would feel safe housing them in the same size cage/tub as you do.
Btw why isnt there much info on the I-net about this species?

I keep them in Pine and screen racks in Zellers "Truly" brand sweater box trays(similar to Rubbermaids but cheaper and slightly wider)
There should be lots of info on the web. try googling for spotteds as well. Spotteds are almost the same snake so any info on them will be suitable for childreni. Only a few years back they were all considered the same thing anyway.
