I was thinking about getting a meller's chameleon and was wondering if anyone new a life expectancy of them?
I've heard up to 12 years but I wasn't sure if that was right.
Thanks.

They can live quite long, although I must cauton, these guys need lots of space, lots of watering, and almost all the u will find in canada are WC and have a hard time acclimatating, these are commonly call the 90 chameleon meaning they dont live much longet then this, and i wouldent recomend them as a firt time chameleon if u have not had a cham b4.
lol k
Now that iv scared u. lol
Try and get a young one your chances for it to live are greatly increased, make sure its in uber shape when u get it, I know that all people look for a healthy animal but inspect it good. I dont know what else to say but good luck, and read like mad these chams are amazing but require alot of work here is some articles

yes they are quite massive. Sadley the one in winnipeg we have now is kept in a 40 gallon hex glass tank. Ive tried talking to one of the guys working there but nothing has been done about it.
Yea they sure are beautiful though. A buddy of mine from a pet shop here said hand feeding it is a real treat. lol. Says the thing nearly took his thumb alone with the super worm. lol It must be at least ten a foot long lol.

Oh Wade I now what store you are talking about.
On Portage, don't say the name of the store though......I saw him, looks great just needs a bigger cage.
I think that cham is CB though.

actually the only mellers ive seen in wpg have been wc.
I dont know about him being cb he has quite a bit of scarring on him. You usually dont see cb with that many scars. Also his size tells me he might be wc as well. the owner wasnt even sure.

hhmmm I wonder what thats about. maybe I misunderstood or something. But I know anouther pet shop on Pemb. had one the same size and sex not too long ago. Thats why I was geussing wc it had the same scarring and stuff also.

Yep I saw that one also.
I am going to ask them if it is WC or not.
Yeah, they live for about 12-15 years. I agree with Collide, these are not recommended for a first time. This species is very hard to care for and they are hard to sex too, if your going to breed them.

it wont do you much use asking them. First of all the reptile manager is gone lol, and secondly they get from massasuaga imports and dont even know themselves where they come from before that. The chick working as active reptile manager really knows squat about chameleons. I think I might go try and get a job there and quickly work my way to the top. She didnt really seem to know much about anything other than leos and cresties.

I wouldent mention company names here!!!

Ya meybe if your saying something bad about a company then yes do not post the name. There is nothing wrong with saying what I did. Its a free country and we do have the freedom of the press. If I can say a company name in the newspaper on on the radio there is no reason why I shouldnt be able to hear. Again as long as you are not putting down a company. People are always naming breeders on here its the same thing. I did not mention the pet shops name, the fact that massasuaga imports sells to pet shops is no big secrete. They only sell to people with theyre own company as a matter of fact. Theyre was no denoucement of they're name.

Having seen about 75% of your posts here on ssnakess, I have noticed that people were always jumping down your throat and getting on your back about things and you always wondered why people were being rude to you.. Yet now, the shoe is on the other foot.. Perhaps you should practice what you preach???
Collide was simply stating a FACT.. We don't want pet store names being mentioned in threads (Granted, you didn't mention the store name).. As Shane has put it so many times.. 'Can we send the bills from the Lawyer fee's to you?'..
Collide, you did nothing wrong, no need to keep your 'trap' shut.. :D

The links Brandy provided are very good. Furthermore, if you search for the group "mellerichams" at http://groups.yahoo.com and sign up for it, you will find they have a number of good articles on the care of this species. I'd place my bets on it being WC as very few are bred in captivity and those that are CH seem to disappear for some reason (my guess is they don't fare too well either for the most part and die off).
Pantherdude...careful, Brandy was just trying to help. The original reference to the store was negative and its in Ssnakess interest to avoid any liability from users posting slanderous stuff about other companies. There are special forums for stuff like that designed with rules to prevent liability. If you want the URL for one, let me know.
