I help out quite a bit at Chatahoochee Nature Center here in Georgia. But usually everytime i am there, they have doing snake stuff (who would of thunk it?). We did cave to do a little med work on a King, but that is about it for herps. Today I got to play with some of the other critters.

Who can resist this face?

This is one of their cross-eyed opossums. It turns out that it is common in captivity because of fatty buildups in their heads forces their eyes to cross. They were just as tame a cat.

And I finally got my first lesson in Birds of Prey. THis is their large Barred Owl. She hung out on my arm for at least 30 minutes and kept begging to be pet more. What a sweetheart. Of course I did get a crash course in what to do when decide they want to try to fly away ;)

Lucky you!!!! Owls are fascinating animals! ( possums too! ) If i could have a large bird, i think it would be an owl or an awk... Bird of prey are wonderful beasts, but before we get them as pets, we might consider to secure their endangered species...

Cool stuff. I think i'ld be a little nervous getting that close to the Owl. I used to work a camp job where had a nesting pair of great grey owls for the 3 years I was there. Some evenigs I would go out and watch them hunt rabbits. They sure ripped the to shreds in short order. Very impressive creatures.

it was a blast. Hopefully next time I will get to work with the Great Horned Owl, then the hawks. I think that the bald eagles are bit much for me ;)
