Hi,
I have 6 sand boas.
One of my sand have one eye opaque, in beginning I thought that it's an eye cap that not shed at the last shed, but now, 4 of my 6 sand boa have occular lesion (one of their eye are opaque).
I think that the substrat is the problem. Before, I use sand, but I had problem with this, now I use aspen bedding...what do you think about this?
I know that somes people in this forum use Betta chip, so this is safe for eye?
Where can I buy it?
Thank you verry much and excuse me for my english it's not my first langage

We have 4 sand boas, all of them are on aspen, and we've never had this problem. How finely shredded is the aspen you're using? Does it have sharp edges to it?

The Aspen that I use is shredded verry finely. Verry small pieces of wood.
I check on the bag and don't see a number for explain to you how finely my aspen is.
But it's the Harlan Teklad company.
Does it have sharp edges to it....I don't think so, but maybe.
It is a little bit more sharp than the aspen that I had before.
The aspen that I had before was shred less finely.
Do you think that an aspen shred less finely will don't hurt eyes of my snake?
Thank you

I used Aspen for two and betta for two. I've never had a problem with aspen. Betta and alpha chip are for sale in Ontario but not sure where. Start a thread asking where people get it and someone will tell you.
Cheers,
Trevor

I use very finely shredded stuff, simply because it's much safer. I can't imagine why your sand boas are getting eye scratches. Usually it's sand that causes the eye scratches.
