With that recent thread on signatures, I got thinking about the user names. Some seem to be very creative, others....not so much. So share if you will.
I suppose I'd better start off. My former roommate got a dumeril and named it Geebies. The future mate for it was going to be Heebie. I found that amusing so I stole it.
Anyone like my username? :)

Yeah, my user names not so creative, just my regular name minus the space between Cam and Hanna. The dumeril story reminds me of some fish that my friend used to have. Both were Astornotus ocellatus, one named 'Oscar' and the other 'Meyer'
My names Michael, almost everyone calls me Mikey, but I noticed 6+ years ago when I got online, that "Mikey" was always taken; hence Mykee.

Invictus
08-13-04, 04:13 PM
I have been using this nickname since the Internet was unheard of, and local dialup BBS's were all there was. Invictus is latin for "unconquerable". The original inspiration came from the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley. My favorite poem of all time. I was infuriated to the point where I beganthrowing things around my house when Timothy McVeigh (the unabomber) used that poem as his final F-YOU to the world. I was literally seeing red. But, I decided that if I change my nickname because of it, I'm letting him win.
Anyway, Invictus is also in my heritage. I'm mostly Scottish, and on my dad's site of the family, clan Armstrong, the clan motto is "Invictus Maneo" - "I remain unconquerable" or "I remain unvanquished". (It could mean either).
So there ya go. :D

Invictus, I like the user name, I've actually got a Yahoo! window open right now trying to find it.
*Edit*
'it' being the poem.

I could just quote the whole thing if you want. :)
Hell with it... here it is:
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

I'm impressed, Invictus. I was hoping you would explain yours. Words to live by, I suppose. That is if I am understanding it right. Who knows with some poetry.

Lyndon, the poem is just about standing tall no matter what happens in your life, and no matter how bad things may seem. Living life like each battle is your last. I'm getting the word "Invictus" tattoed somewhere on my body to remind me that anything can be conquered.

No matter WHAT people seem to read my nickname as, its' punkuponastar. Not Punkupornstar or punkuponapornstar....
Punk Upon A Star. Instead of Wish Upon A Star... Punk like the show, not like the music...even though I like it.
:)
"Heather" works too...

Ken,
The unabomber was Ted Kazcynski. McVeigh was responsible for Oklahoma City. Just a small quibble. Both were nuts.
About nicks, I've been using this one for over a decade, and had lots of others before on the BBS scene from 1980 on. Since my previous nicks didn't always fit in a login, I picked a word and a sig that would go together: "Don't cross me and I won't cross you.", voila, Cruciform :)
I had a lot of people ask me if I'd ever read Hyperion by Dan Simmons when they'd see the name so eventually I checked the books out. Strange and interesting. I have to get the whole series eventually. Turns out that the cruciform in the books is a weapon with regenerative powers that it uses on those afflicted by it.

I am a hard core Frank Zappa fan, and I used to host a jazz radio show in which to have a request played on the air... you had to "earn" it... I requested that you (the caller/requester) "made a jazz noise" for me....

Cruciform - GAH! I've been getting the 2 of those nutballs confused since their convictions. But now that you reminded me which one McVeigh was, now I remember why I literally went into a fury when he butchered that poem.
On a sidenote, have you ever heard the gothic band called Cruciform? It was a 2 person team, and they only ever did 1 album. I have a song of theirs on a compilation album... very intense stuff.
Hmm... ~*SaMbA*~ is the nickname given to me by an ex-fiance. He called me that because of the way I dance (he thought I was good, I think I danced more like Elaine Bennece, or however you spell that dorky woman's name) hehe. Simple... not my real name, but something that's stuck around. =)

Ken, nope I haven't heard their stuff. And they only beat me to registering the .com domain by a couple of days. :)
What style is it? I really hate the slow, weepy stuff. So if it's anything other than that, I'd give it a shot :)

My name is simply latin for a native rattler species here in Arizona. I have used the name prior for a name, so just kept it going. The name fit, being the forums I have registered it in are herpetocultural in nature.

Well, like I said, I've only heard one of their songs, but it's well.... slow and weepy and angsty. The song is actually about the singer's mother committing suicide.
