View Full Version : Aspen bedding
I've switched from paper towel to aspen substrate today in my corn tank today for a more natural look. I've done a bit of research before making the switch and read mostly positive info. Tell me about you're experiences with aspen (pros and cons) as a substrate or any other info you have for me on this topic, thanks.
p.s pics of my oakatee and green/pink snow coming soon!!!
I used to use aspen bedding but then I changed it to beta chips and I LOVE IT.
Aspen bedding isn't bad though~
just that I like beta chips more...I think that it looks better too~~
i read about snakes getting respritory infections from aspen...think there is any truth to this???

NO truth at all. It's cedar and pine that can lead to fatal RI's in snakes. Aspen kicks up a bit of dust, but a very light misting can prevent even that. I use aspen in a few enclosures, and I love it, especially for corns. I don't feed them on it, but I find it absorbs their runny poop quite well, and even helps to contain some of the smell. The only reason I don't use it in all of my corn enclosures is because of price - paper towel is much cheaper.

I always use aspen bedding. I'd rather use paper towel or newspaper, but I always feel like they are happier on the aspen. I've never had any problems.
