Is it difficult to switch jungles from mice to rats or are they not picky. I have a ball so I know how picky some snakes can be, but are jcp's anything like that?

I also have some other questions that I was going to save up for a while and just make a little list, but I might as well just ask now.

Ive read different things on what substrate to use. When I get my jcp im going to purchase a baby, so for the first little bit of his/her life it will be in an aquarium. So to keep humidity up better then just using mulch or newspaper, what about using soil as well. I was thinking to make an inch layer of soil and a half inch layer of mulch to just cover it and make it a better substrate for the snake to move on. Could you use soil on its own or will it become to humid? If neither, what would you suggest instead?

An 18.5L "tallie" Rubbermaid is a MUCH better choice for a baby Jungle than a fish cage (aka an aquarium).

I've never had any problems switching. Some people have though. I would use bark mulch for any Jungle over 4-5 months of age. For sure. It works great for them! Don't use soil. You can, but I don't think the benefits are all that great. Humidity isn't a real big deal with Carpets. Not at all.

If I got a jungle younger then 4-5 months, is bark still applicable?

I've used Astroturf as substrate for years with a few layers of newspaper underneath. If needed, which as Jeff mentioned isn't usually the case with JCP's (especially here in Miami) I add a Rubbermaid with moist sphagnum. This works well with my Bloods, they love it.

Fortunately, I didn't have any problems switching from mice to rats.

I'm having a hulluva time switching mine over... both shy away when I present a rat...
