my new red tail

Hi everybody I am new to this forum, I just wanted to show off my new baby red tail and his name is Helmut.I built his cage myself, its pretty basic for now but once I purchase a house it will be huge and sweet.
He seems to like my girlfriends hair more than any place in the house or his cage, he will sit there for hours.I feed him one small rat every 5 days(or until he deficates)which is usually around that time anyways.He always seems to deficate in his water bowl. Is this normal?Anyways here are a few pics.

as for the pooping in the water bowl, yes that is normal. make sure u always clean it afterwards so that he doesnt drink the dirty water. when he is bigger and can no longer fit into the water bowl, he wont do it anymore. if u want u could give him a smaller bowl. if u do, give him the big one back when he is shedding so he can soak if he wants.

You can try to give him more food if he want to because he is a baby. After 12 months you should feed him once a week.
