Using sterilite drawers as racks?

Hello,

I was wondering if its possible to use sterilite drawers as racks. They have many different models but for example would this work for small colubrids - #1704:

They are stackable and i dont see why they cant be used. Its crazy to me how much people charge for such simple racks when this seems it would work just fine. For heating you could run heat tape down the back just like any other racks...

As for venting you could drill holes if needed.

Let me know if anyone uses them or any comments you may have on this subject.

Stuff will escape ...All those multi bin plastic storage things don't fit well enough to be snake proof

Yeah, stuff will escape easily. Also, front "face" of the drawer has two grooves which is really hard to clean.

I have seen them in the stores and they were very secure with not even 1/8'th crack...

I've looked at those too in the store for the same reason. I would not sleep well at night with my snakes in those. I agree with Roy and Edwin

For the most part, "simple racks " are used because they 100% meet the requirements of snake owners. Simple to make, and made to perfect spec.

They work good for leopard geckos. Wouldn't put a snake in one though. TB

Yeah, I know a guy that does mealworms in them too, so that's about it... Yeah short Leos maybe in the deeper type LOL, but NO snakes.

I think we all have similar tendancies to stake out the housewares section in every big department store we visit.. I instinctually make a b-line for those areas a few times a week when I'm out for my mall walk at lunch time.
Some weeks there is something new of interest, like the new black rubbermaids...fantastic for hides and nest boxes.
I always check new containers including all the "works in a drawer" types, but have yet to see one suitable for snakes. the brand "Gracious living" makes some nice ones, even in funky colors with handles on the drawers. From across the store they look great, but under close inspection they are flimsy, the drawers stick and there is huge gaps. Huge with snakes is anything over 1/16 inch
It's possible there might be some US designs that us Canadians don't have access too, but none I have seen up here would hold a corn snake past the first night.
