View Full Version : okay...
My first batch of eggs ever is hatching now. They started yesterday sometime when I was @ work. There are only 7 eggs, but only 2 are comming out. One is out all the way and @ the bottom of the container, the other is just poking out his head. The others haven`t cut through yet? Is that okay? Do you ever have to help them? Oh my gawd.. this is nervous...
Oh, and when they are all out should I keep them together or seperate them all...I`ve read a a lot of different stuff and i`ve read both...which is better
Opions people I need all sorts of opions...

We didn't help any of ours and they usually all pip within 24 hours, but they take their time coming out of the egg - they will be sticking their noses out and breathing, but are still absorbing the last of their yolk sac - so you don't want to hurry them from coming out once they have pipped.
Some people will cut the eggs open about 48 hours after the first one pips, just to make sure the rest have a chance. We have just left them to do it on their own - figuring that weak ones shouldn't survive.
We keep baby corns together in their clutch group (sometimes split up into two tubs) in the incubator on damp paper towel for 24 hours after they hatch. They then stay together in the same tub, with a moist paper towel in the hide box (change daily) until they shed at about 10 days.
After shedding they are moved to individual tubs and offered food for the first time. Don't think it matters if you separate them all the day after they hatch, but they do seem to stay in a clump when kept together, and I keep them in a group because it is easier to maintain the humid towels in one tub rather than many.
Good luck with them - baby corns are so cute! Will be looking for pics of them soon,

I do what Mary says, the only thing is that I do help them pip after 30 hours or so after the first one pips. Some don't pip cause they didn't develop their egg tooth.
But I guess not helping out is right.....that's the survival of the fittest I guess......but since they're CBB, I would do them since we're not exactly giving them their natural environment anyways...

I didn't help any of mine, and they all pipped within 2 days of each other. I chose to separate them right away, mostly so I could keep track of which ones shed and which ones didn't, although it didn't matter because they all got fed on the same day regardless of when they shed.
