View Full Version : If you could only keep one...

I guess this is aimed more at keepers with more than a handful of animals BUT all are welcome to answer. :)

If, for some reason, you were forced to weed your collection down to just one of your current animals, which would you keep and why?

That is a tough one. For me, I think it would be my female South Florida Kingsnake. Her or my female Irian Jaya Carpet Python! :D

<b>EDIT:</b> Why? The South Florida Kingsnake because she is a big, gentle snake with a great feeding response. The IJCP because she is getting HUGE and she is one of the most beautiful snakes I've ever seen in person. :)

Your collection is a little bigger then mine but I would probaly keep my patternless leopard gecko.......how could you say no to that.....http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/5592Picture_095-med.jpg

TIM:

Man you make it hard to sacrafice anything in this question.
Hmmm if you said species it would be Emerald Tree Boas for me.
But you said 1 animal, then that would be my 1st Albino Boa - ZEUS - reason being the amount of time it took to finally get 1, and being my most desired and babied animal I had at the time in my collection. After trying 3 years to get Albinos this little guy brought me much joy and still does.

I got others but you did not make this easy to think out only 1, lol.

It would have to be Seth, normal male cornsnake. First snake we ever produced.

This is an old pic of him, guess I should take a recent one.

One Woma. Doesn't matter which one. But ya know, an Aru GTP is making it very very hard to decide!

Man Tim I have got to agree about the S. Florida kingsnakes. Half the time I find difficult to get the tongs out of the cage after a feeding. My male wraps the whole thing up.

As far as your question. I would keep my first box turtle Sherman. TB

I think it would be my Coastal Carpet Python which is also my avatar. ;)

My normal Ball Python, Eight. She wasn't my first snake or anything, I just seem to like her in a different way than the others.

My Columbian BCI. Slow, Gentle, and unlike the rest of my collection, has never showed me any sign of aggression.

Any of my burms is great with me but would proubably take a female albino patterless favorite snake of all tame.

Definately 'Nemo' the guy in my avitar - he was my compensation for having to give up our boas and carpet pythons to accomodate a move to Saskatchewan where they are restricted. While there are many guys in our collection I value, he represents three boas and a very special Irian Jaya that I still miss a lot.

And did I mention that I think he is gorgeous - I wanted one like him from the first time I saw a picture of one!

This is sooo hard. Especialy if we really imagine we'd need to do that.

I think my answer would change depending on when you're asking the question :)

At the moment, I'd say...

**about 5 minutes passed from typing "..." to the actual moment I really typed in the answer  **

Our male Vietname Cave gecko..

Ouf.. really hard to imagine all the other ones would vanish in an instant :)

I would have to go with my first crestie Schlitz. He is the reason I have so many now.
Thats him in my avatar.

08-11-04, 11:10 AM
Yup I'm with Choke on this one I'm picking my first crested gecko. I actually bought 2 at the same time, but the male is nicer no running away, no peeing on me when done being held etc . . . So it's Cresty for sure. Plus he's always just been my fav and introduced me to my current fav species!!

Although Tony mentioned Emeralds...nobody has piked them yet, and thats a crying shame, so without a doubt, and no tossing and turning over it, My Male Emerald Loki!

Would have to be my first snake, normal BCI, I'd never trade or sell her!

Invictus
08-11-04, 12:14 PM
No brainer... it would be Anubis, the first BCI we ever purchased. He's the sweetest snake in the world, the most beautiful lightly colored one I've ever seen, and he's just been my baby since day 1.

Deffinetly, without a second guess, my Russian Tortoise. Im planning on keeping this little girl for life.

It's hard to imagine losing them all, but I would have to say my first choice would be my spotted, since she was the first on I ever brought home. I absolutely love her and wouldn't trade her for anything (and lately I have had a few offers lol)!

OMG, that is just so unfair! Pick one, just one. Well, I go with Morph. lol, I can't just pick one, so I'm keeping them all! Or how bout just 1 of each. ;) Seriously though, if I had to chose just one and thank the lord I don't, I think it would be Peter, my northern blue tongue skink. He was a gift from another bts admirer and these guys have always been a favorite of mine and also the reason I now have snakes in the house, they got my husband to turn around and allow sankes in the house (well, so long as he doesn't see them. lol) Or lovie. She was not my first leo but has always been my absolute favorite and I use her for my logo. :)

here is Peter. A true beauty and a hit with all the kids.

And this is Lovie. Her name says it all.

After much sweating, wailing and gnashing of teeth, I'd end up with my leachianus. She's got spunk, attitude and she can send a stream of poop flying 4 feet across the room. What more could I want (except all my other herps back) :)

bistrobob85
08-11-04, 07:28 PM
I think it would be my boa constrictor, Mr. Big Serge... He's an ever growing loving beast :)

i didn't even have to think about this- my 5 foot female bci Maddy. she is one of the first herps i got and has been the best animal to me (sure shes hissed at me a few times but oh well, didn't hurt my feelings) i couldn't live without this snake and i dont know what i'll do when something happens to her.

WOW,to have to choose between all of my animals,I think for me it would be either my midnight leopard gecko or my first dragon.i have had her for 5 years so she is special, and my midnight gecko becuase he is one of the only ones i have ever seem and he is great. love them all but i guess that would be my choose.

Terri
08-11-04, 09:27 PM
Wow, very hard to chose just one. I have changed my mind at least twenty times just while reading through the replies. I think I would have to go with my juvi iguana, Stick Bug. He came to us in very poor condition and now is doing great. He even goes kite flying with me, dosen't mind the leash and harness and knows how to hang on while I'm running in the fields with the kites.

Clownfishie
08-11-04, 11:53 PM
Definitely Xander, my male ball python. He was my first snake, and I can't imagine ever selling him... On the other hand, it would be pretty damn tough to see several of them go... my GTP, among others. LOL.

I think I need to go and admire everyone now, and be happy that I'm not faced with such an insanely difficult decision :p

DEFINETLY my male normal BCI, Pal! He was my first ever boid, and is the herp I trust the most. I can put my finger in his mouth and he wont bite me! Its almost as if he has emotions. The calmest guy EVER! I can lay down on my bed and he will curl around me after 5 mins of crawling and stay in that spot for 15 mins and the cycle repeats! LOL. I love that guy, best snake ever!

What a terrible decision!!! It'd have to be my first Mali Uromastyx though. These guys have the most amazing and variable personalities. Spike was my first, and has always been a sweetie. Here's an old pic of him:

I would have to go with Clyde, my male JCP... but Gnome, my male GTP is a close new contender! I am a HUGE family of the morelia pythons!!! I would love more, so this is an awful question!

Someone should start a post asking what it would be if you could only add one more to your collection!

I would add a female GTP, then I would be complete (for a short while anyways!!!)
