New Corndi Pics!

Here's a few updated pics of our recently shed bairdi x corn.

Here's one of my males. The first one to hatch. The first pic is far too dark, but shows his cute face.

This pic is more true to life. He is the lightest one of all the babies and a real looker. We will be bringing him to the Red Deer show, so folks can get a look at these guys. They're not very flashy, but neat regardless.

These next two pics are of Vanan's male.

You can see how the blotching is different between these two. Also he is much darker than my male. It will be interesting to see how these two develop compared to each other.

Both of these snakes have already shed and fed. We ended up with 3.3 corndi and we split 2.1 for me and 1.2 for Vanan.

Very different from each other! The narrow saddles on Vanan's are quite interesting. Will be interesting to see if the saddles fade out and they end up with the more diffuse Bairds coloration over time.

Are you planning on going to an F2 with these guys in future?

That's correct Mary, the whole point of even producing these F1's was to get the F2! That's where the real fun begins! Course, now we have to wait three years, but oh well! These guys are interesting all on their own.

The only thing, with producing so many of these means you will have to get rid of some, right now you have 3 females, if you breed these 3 then we are looking at possible 30 or more in the next few years to take care of, you said you would not be selling them right? well what do you intend to do with the offspring? give them away? that will have the same repercushins as selling them, Honestly I think it is wrong, this is only my opinion and is not directed at you or Vannan as a person...good luck with whatever your decisions are!

Your thoughts are similar to ours Joe. Hence why we've decided to undertake this long-term project. Our plans are to keep all 3.3 and F2 them. The babies will then be kept for 1-2 yrs to see the colour change. If it's something impressive enough (and distinct enough from each parents species) we may keep some. If they end up similar to either parents species (like our F1's) then we'll cull the line. We do own kings. :D

P.S. We don't breed hybrids to sell as a designer snake or to make money off of them. Our sole interest in hybrids is in seeing the influences each parents species has in the hybrid offspring and noticing which traits are more dominant than others.

Only two of the females will hopefully be bred, as the third is unbreedable due to kinks in her body.

As Vanan has said, we will cull the babies if they aren't particularly interesting. As for having a surplus of babies, that is easily dealt with. We have plenty of hungry mouths who can and have and will eat any extra li'l babies.

You might ask why I crossed these at all, if I wasn't going to sell them. Well, I bred them for myself and for my own interest. I want to know what these guys would look like and what their offspring will look like.

I, too have my own concerns regarding the prevalence of hybrids out there, but you can't stop the problem, so the best thing to do is the teach newbie hybridizers to be RESPONSIBLE.

Nah! I think they look ugly as hybrids! The thing to see is when they go through their ontogenic change into the adult colours, or if they even will.

Wow, I just drew a blank when I saw the subject... Was thinking, 'What in the hell is a corndi?!?!' LOL
I can't wait to see what these little guys look like as they grow, would be cool if they got the "brushed metal" bairdi look on the saddles and the rest stayed grey! Gotta love the cute little corn faces regardless :D
