first off, hi to everyone.

I've had an interest in snakes for some time but don't currently own one. I was wondering which are the more common snakes for starters.

I'm looking for something relatively small and easy to maintain. I like the idea of being able to feed garter snakes worms or feeder fish. I was wondering what other snakes would be similar to this.

I apologize if this is the wrong section for this question. I've tried going through the forum looking. But as I'm sure you know this is a very large forum.

Well, I think the most common snakes for beginners would be corn snakes. Their hardiness, good feeding responses, and good temperaments make them an excellent beginner snake. However, like most snakes, they will need to be fed rodents. Garter snakes are easy to keep, but if you plan to move to other snakes later on, you might as well get accustomed to feeding rodents now. Most colubrids (corn snakes, rat snakes, king snakes, etc...) are excellent for beginners. Purchase one from a reputable breeder near you, and you will get all the advice you should need. Also, you can always ask specific questions in the "Elaphe Guttata Guttata" (i.e. Corn Snake) forum. Good luck!!!

in addition to the good starter snakes mentioned above, small pythons of the antaresia genus, such as the spotted python, are also good beginner snakes.

Welcome to ssnakess, corns are good starter snakes, but you will need to feed mice/rats.
