Crested geckos (Rhacodactylus ciliatus) and Gargoyle geckos (Rhacodactylus auriculatus) belong to the same genus but are different geckos...both are relatively similar (almost identical) in size, habitat, diet and care. Gargoyles are only found on one of the islands in New Caledonia while cresteds are found in more places...

As for physical differences, the key difference is that gargoyles have these parietal bones on the top of the head that give it a 'bumpy' look, and cresteds have the eyelash-y fringes that run all the way down their body to the tail...

For pics of cresties and gargoyles, go here:

A site that gives a good general idea of crested gecko morphs, go here:

http://www.crestedgecko.com/crestedgecko/Crested%20Geckos.htm and scroll down...

Hope this helped, good luck! :D

Try a search on google about caresheets of these two geckos. Check out Anthony C's website for crested gecko care www.acreptiles.com.

Your best bet would be to buy the book: Rhacodactylus The Complete Guide to their Selection and Care By Philippe de Vosjoli, Frank Fast, and Allen Repashy. This book is awesome, it has tons of pics of different morphs of both crested and gargoyle geckos. It also goes into great detail of their care as well as other rhacs.

Heather summed it up pretty well.

About the only thing I can add is that baby and juvenile Gargoyle Geckos need to be housed individually, as they will eat the tails (and toes, and feet, etc.) of their cage mates. In fact, they've even been known to eat their cage mates when the size differences become too great.
