Eating and the after effect

Well I was really happy that Reggy(my BP) ate his first mouse in my possession..now here is the ???he ate on friday the 4th..today while I was at work he pooped out 2 yes 2 shriveled really smelly mice carcases(I mean really stinky like dead smell) there was also a little green crystally looking thing over in the corner of his tank..I waited about seven days to feed him from when I got him and they said he ate a few days before that..he is about 9 mo old....I just dont know what to expect. is one poopy supposed to stink up the whole house??I appreciate any help..Waltor

It sounds like your BP might have regurgitated his meal...snake poop doesn't really stink (it's a little musky when fresh) but snake regurgitation smells to high heaven....

Sounds more like a regurgiation than a defecation. Poop has a mild stink to it, but nothing unbearable. A regurgitation on the other hand will spread a lovely odour throughout the house very quickly. The little green crystals sound like possibly urates - but definteily not healthy. Green is indicative of liver/kidney problems or severe deyhydration.

Did you handle him within 48 hours of feeding him? Snakes shoudln't be handled for at least 48 hours after each meal, this stress can lead to a regurgitation. What are your temps at? Make sure you bring a fecal sample to the vet to test for parasites as well. Give him a weeks rest before you attempt to feed him again, make sure that he is has a proper temperature gradient (80 cool side - 90 hot spot), and access to free water.

I did not handle him for 2 nights, also he has access to clean water which I change out every other day.. I have an under the tank heater but it doeasnt seem like its getting hot enough..I have a thermometer in the middle of the tank on the rear and it sits around 80..I dont know what to do

Waltorian, what is the HOTSPOT temperature... and what are you heating the enclosure with and what kind of enclosure is it. More info so we can help you out :)

Ok, it is 12x30x12, I have the under the tank heater at one end and a lamp that sits on top of the screen at the other end that is where the water is. his hide is near the under the tank heater but not on it..I mist the tank every other day..Ill need another thermometer for the diff readings,for now I will move the one I got to the other end..oh the tank has a screen top which I have about 3/4 covered to keep the warm in..more info coming..thank you

i need some tmeperature reading walter.. mainly of the floor of the cage over the heatpad and under the heat lamp... if your using a undertank heater i wouldnt even use the overhead lamp... make sure the floor temperature over the undertank heater is 88 - 92 and put his hide there... if you can maintain this temperature then you dont even need the other overhead lamp.. its overkill and he would have regurged because there is no gradient to escape... one side should have a floor temp of 78 or so.

yeah, but dont play with him, but handling to move aorund his cage stuff is fine... you should mist him down and keep humidity up and provide fresh water so he can rehydrate himself

Also, you seem to have only one hide. Add a second one so you have one in the hot end and another one in the cool end. It help reduce the stress.

I think I might need to do that beacuase when I came home from work today there was very smelly residue on part of the cage, like maybe where he regurg..there was no mice parts or anything and he did seem to drink his water..One thing I have this stuff that come withthe reptile cage to purify water add a couple of drops..should I be using this or should I use straight from the tap..I wanna help my little buddy..and what can a vet do??

i brita filter my bps water, that way it removes the basic grossness from it..... but i dont add any cemicals to their water. however, because i breed my own prey, i giv them vitamins in their water and i feed them EVERYTHING which gives me plump pinkies, hefty fuzzies and huge adults...
