Hey

I need some help, i cant get the superworms to change into bettles, i have heard that i need film canister(sp) but i dont have the money to get them, and i dont think any photoshop will give me them for free. So what i have done is got an ice cube tray and threw in some oats and a peice of carrot. I taped the top and poked holes....Now they have pupated and im just waiting for them to become bettles. But my other container just with superworms they arnt pupating at all there just staying as worms. Last question is can i mixed bettles with the worms? Or will they eat each other? Its been weeks and im having trouble to start off.

Thanks

I've only ever had them metemorphisize by accident. I basically forgot about them in the basement for a couple months and they bred the bejebous out of each other.

Conditions were cool, damp and dark. I kept them on oatmeal.

Superworms take a LOT more care than regular mealworms. Superworms will not pupate in the "general" population, you need to separate them into small containers. Go to a craft store and get some plastic bead trays. They are usually about $6 each for tray with 24 separated "bins" at Michael's. I'm sure you can find something cheaper at walmart too. :)
Separate the LARGEST worms into the individual compartments with a bit of "substrate." It takes between 7 - 10 days for them to pupate. Leave them alone until they turn into beetles, and then put them into a "beetle" bin.
You will have to rotate the beetles about every two weeks into a new bin to make sure they don't eat the eggs and the older larvae (superworms) don't eat the eggs.
You can't put the beetles in the same container as the larva.
ALWAYS make sure to give them some sliced potatoes, carrots, apples, ect, to make SURE they have enough to drink or the worms will eat each other. Do NOT put them in the fridge or they will die.
Good luck!

but they stink after a while hahahaha:p No wonder why....i never knew they were gonna be that hard, cause i got baby chameleons comming soon so gotta get these guys prepared:) But oatmeal is fine? cause thats all i got, and ill get about 3 bins fill them with oatmal, and through them in my draw(sp) and get the beetles in them. Does the beetles get along with the superworms?

if you go to a photo processing place and ask them for some of their used film canisters they should give you some, it shouldnt be a problem....I used to work at a photo place and we (the store) used to just throw them out. go give it a try.

I used empty yogurt or pudding cups, put a little food in there and leave them alone for a few weeks and they should pupate and continue the lifecycle. Put one per cup or whatever container you use
