Looking to Breed BP's.

I have always had snakes of one kind or another, and am looking to try breeding some BP's. They are probably the best tempered of all snakes that I have owned. I have two commons right now, but would be interested in breeding something a little more interesting.
Any advise on what I can start up that wont cost me an arm and a leg?
Any advise or opinions would be welcome.

A male pastel can be had for $1500. Best investment for a beginning breeder by far IMO.

So if I breed a male Pastel with a female regular, or vice versa, i'll probably get a few pastels per clutch? How easy is taking care of the eggs? What is involved?

first.... you should probably think why you are wanting to breed. If it's for money, then you should reconsider.
The market is always changing and to make money you have to spend money, but something you buy now could be worth alot less in as little as a year.

If you really want to do it, I think what others here would suggest is getting hets (from a reputable source of corse) for a certain morph..... if you are looking for something not too expensive, the only thing that really comes to mind is het albino's.

The other thing is, it will still cost you a LOT to get breedable size females, and even more so come september (you start cooling in october). So if you are going to go through with it, decide and buy NOW.

I'm not in a rush to do it. I would rather research and know what i'm doing come the time, than rush into it and f*ck it up.
I would do it more for the interest of doing it, than for the money. I enjoy having beautiful reptiles, and while I will never have a house full of them, I will always have 'some'. I would end up selling some of the offspring from a clutch, but only because I dont want a ton of snakes.
The reason for starting this thread is that I wanted to know if any of the strains of BP's were easier or harder to breed than others.

All "strains" (or morphs) are the same personality-wise, temperment and attitude is dependant on individual snakes, but if you're doing it for fun, start with the pair or normals you've got now, and if you like, then start to amass some nice, lower-end morphs. Seeing as how you are new to breeding BP's, if you're truly serious about it, go to www.ballpython.com and purchase the Ball Python Breeding Manual by Dr. Mark Seward feat. the Sutherlands. It will answer all 14.3 million questions you have as a first-time breeder, and many more.
