Hey Everyone,
My cousin recently bought a 260 gal flexi-terrium (6 feet by 3 feet by 2 feet) for his Australian water dragon. I love the way he set up his and started thinking about if it would work for a cornsnake. The encolsure it pretty simple: it has a hard plastic frame which connects togther through a series of poles, which support the cage. At the bottem, it has this sort of mat that allows for an inch of bedding to be laid down while preventing it from going all over your reptile room. (I was going to modify it slightly and make it so I could add 4 inches of bedding for my corn to dig in, because he seems to enjoy that alot.) Then all thats left to do is to take the soft but strong mesh( the holes are less then 1/4th of a cm apart so it would be fine for an adult corn) that zips around the poles and then finally comes togther sealing off the terrium. (I'm going to then use those little rubbermaid ties to seal the zippers tight.) I wanted to let my cornsnake have as much room as possible to excersise and feel safe by providing alot of hidboxes, and have always been a firm believer in the bigger the better ( except for some species that get easly stressed and baby snakes ). I wanted to buy the one that measures 5 feet by 3 feet by 2 feet (the 176 gal i think which goes for around $100 at pet mart. ) for my corn and then make a custom rack thingy that it can sit on with a metal bar 12 inches above the top of the mesh, where I can attach clamp lamps. The best part is there prety cheap compared to all glass aquriums and for people like myself who have no talent at building custom tanks they save alot of money. I thought they were pretty neat. Has anyone else ever considered using flexiterriums for corns? Just wanted to know your guys thoughts befor I go out and buy the stuff for Nicky's new home.
Thanks alot
Kayla:)

If this is the reptarium type of cage my major concern would be with security. I have not used these myself, so concerns are based on information that has been shared with me. While an adult corn might have trouble getting out, babies can worm their way through the smallest of openings and have an incredible determination to escape. While the mesh is tight, the places where the zipper starts and closes would be my biggest concerns. Even with ties to hold the zipper, I would be paranoid about escapes.

These containers don't hold humidity at all so you might need to provide more carefully for that during sheds. Other than that, I agree, the more space the better for corns and if you can add some branches to use all the height, they will climb quite a bit.

If you end up using it would be great if you can post some pictures once it is set up,

Mary,
I'd be more then happy to post some pics when it's done( which won;t be for a month or so because i'm currently broke). As for where the zippers meet instead of using ties i think instead i'm going to put a piece of plastic on the inside of the enclosure and sow it on so that way when its colsed nicky won't have anyway of getting it ( but again i'll post pics which is probably easyer to understand). As for the humidity thing i have a humiditfier in my room which keeps the humditiy at 50% so i don't have to spray my tanks as much and plus i like humdity so its a win win.
rock on
Kayla:)
