Just a few questions about my beardy.

When i first got him i looked into a containter full of beardies, right away their was one whos tail went up and it stared at me, i imediatly said yeah no doubt thats the one. It ended up being a male that was great, my first beardy looking back on it i shoulda picked one that was probibly not aware of me at all.

My beardy now seems really paranoid, his cage is in my computer room which i spend alot of free time, he watchs me the whole time, he will bask and eat and walk around and try to escape, but he always has an eye on me, if i move my head the side quickly he will make a quick burst and look at me. If i walk in the room instintly his head will turn to the side and stare at me like a lost puppy. Feeding is good, his diet consists of half sized crickets or larger, silk worms, cucumber, carrots, peas and various other vegitbles, his treats seem to be silkworms which im trying to feed him more of compared to crickets and watermelon he seems to really injoy. Its hard to take him out, he runs and hides, ounce i have him out thow he doesnt try to escape, i bring him outside to get some fresh sunlight and he seems to injoy himself. When others attempt to hold him he tends to be a jumper, hes falling over 4 feet on 2 ocasions now, from that i dont like others picking him up at all. the inclosure i have him in is alittle tricky to hold the lid to get him out, cuases some added pressure on him probibly but recently i got him to eat 3 silk worms from my hand, on the 4th one thow he ran away and hid.

Yeah, little story thier i no, just an update on him. Just wondering if he will become alittle more friendly with time, he has never bitten or anything, i would just like him to be alittle more people friendly, with silk worms and hand feeding i think that will help. Just wondering if thiers any ways i can get him to come around, if i should take him out less or for shorter periods, or take him out more, right now i try to take him out 4-5 times a week, when he really resists and runs i let him be becuase i dont want to scare him.

Im hopeing age will fix it all.

Also, i swear daily i can see growth diffrences. :D

ps. he is about 3 mounths old.

wish i could help you with his 'paranoia' but I haven't a clue. but I too have a 3 month old (almost) male beardie who is growing non stop 2 weeks ago I got him and he was 10 inches head to tail and he is now 12 solid from head to tail you'll definatly notice him growing non stop. Also the first lizard ive ever seen shed his back and stomache in 2 full sized solid coats love these guys :D but I think if you continue handling him he'll be fine. luckily the guy i got mine from took real good care of them and he managed to handle all of his baby beardies for atleast 20 mins a day so he's dog tame already.

I wouldn't necessarily handle him for twenty minutes a day, but short handling periods daily will help to acclimate your dragon. Often times, this isn't even necessary and they tend to calm down with age - and that will be key here. I also wouldn't equate the amount of time you handle baby dragons to how tame they come out - some individuals are nervous as young and are completely content as adults. You also get the ones that do not calm down. Definitely hand feed him treats like silkworms so he associates you with good. I hope that helped.

So would you not reccomend frequent handling of the bearded dragon, or just saying it's not necisary?

I've been spending alot of time w/ my lizards recently watching my Bosc because I thought he was sick which I'm pretty sure he's not now but while monitoring him I brought my differant animals out to keep me busy off and on, even think I've tamed down my fiesty armadillo a bit :P

But if frequent handling isn't the best idea I'll try and refrain.

Well, it isn't so much of a big deal with bearded dragons as it may be with other reptiles; just ensure that you are not overdoing it and your animal is not showing any signs of stress, and there should be no problems.
