I spent Wednesday - Saturday at Medicine Hat Stampede with a display of reptiles. There was also another person with a trailer outside the building we were in, who brought some reptiles from Texas.
You know what they say about everything being bigger in Texas.... Danny Conner brought a 120 lb alligator snapping turtle, and a very large water monitor.
He said it was over 7' long and weighed 80 lbs. He told me it was obese, but I did not think it was, and still can envision another 10 or 15 lbs on that lizard before I would start to call it obese. It was imported in 1992, not sure of the size or age of it at the time.
Full tail, colors same as our little 5 footer (which I used to consider large....) and a beautiful and very big face. I don't think I've ever wanted another reptile as bad as I'd love to have that animal.
I do not have any pictures of it (I will get some) - but I just wanted to say that I've finally seen a monster monitor lizard - and I liked it, I liked it a lot!
