Hi, This is one of my fattail baby that i got alittle while ago. I have done alot of research and my question is this....Is this a amel fattail or what? I have a normal fattail and he does not look like this one. even my adult striped female has darker bands then this one(alot darker a very dark brown) my camera suchs big....she has very light brown colour on her bands and a quite bright orange band colour on the tail. her head is a bald no colour i guess you could say. please if anyone can tell me what they think i would be so greatful........ thanks guys

that is definately not an amel. it is just a nice colored normal.

I would lean towards a light phase fattie, but yes, it's a normal.
Looks like many of hatchlings.

Amel just means albino. Yours looks a lot like my poss. het albinos, but really is probably only a light phase normal.

i was not saying that it was amel i was asking if it looks like a 66% het amel. which i have seem may and she looks just like one, and her bands are not even close to what is in the picture that you posted. i know that she is not full i guess that is my fault,i should have stated that but i wrote amel not het for amel. sorry. her bands are lighter then that one and her tail is bright orange. i hae been told that she is het for amel but not sure. again my camera really suchs.thanks for your time.

i dont think you can tell hets by looking at them. the only way to know is to prove her out! or, if you know that one of her parents was an amel, than she is a 100% het. even if she is not a het, she is a looker, and would make nice hets.

With fat tails and leos, you can quite often tell a het from a normal, but not het for what.:D I would say that if you were told she is 66% poss. het amel then she probably is:D

i know that she is het but i just want to see what others thought because i have seen pictures of het for amel and you can tell. well maybe i an just nuts but i swear you can tell because they are so much lighter in colour and i have a normal and he looks nothing like this one and i have 2 striped and they like nothing like her either(i mean band wise)again the pictures are bad.....thanks everyone for your help.......i think she is going to make great babies and i hope that i get some that are full amels but i guess we will wait and see what happens.

Sorry, to say... but you can't tell what's a het but looking at it. You have to prove them out.
Example. Pick out the het.

If the breeder told you that it was a 66% het. then there is a 66% chance that it could be a het. Not meaning it is. Either way, although your camera is out of focus, it looks like a very nice fattie.
Ps. the middle fattie is 100% het, the other two are normals

I've produced a couple hundred Fat Tails including Albinos, 100% hets, 66% possible hets, 50% possible hets........There is no way to tell a het from a normal wihtout breeding the particular animal in question to something known to be a carrier of the gene or a homozygote animal.
Positive/wishful thinking is good though :) Test your theory with an appropriately sized control group and share the results. I would be interested so read a study of that nature.
Best wishes with your Fat Tails,

you know what you need to grow up or something, what makes you a expert on the subject...... how do you know that i have not breed them before and just because you can not tell does not mean that someone eles cant tell. i dont care what you think because you are rude everyone eles on this tread was nice about their post but you were rude. i asked a question that was all. i am not saying that i am a expert either but i would never go on here and be rude because someone has a opinion. god i only asked man sometime you guys get so mad like you think the world owes you. Even if you have breed that many fattails or own a store that still does not make you a know it all there are people that own store and know nothing about nothing. there are stores that sell bad animals (i just got a spotted ptyhon and when i went to pick him up it was a childs ptyhon so go figure) that owner knows nothing.
Spreeguy - those are adorable fatties!
Lizlady - breed out your gecko when it's old enough and find out what you got! It looks like a very nice gecko no matter what it's het for!

Was that directed at me? If so I'm completely confused...........

As Jon said, you can't see if your fattie is 'het', it's not a visual trait. That's what the term 'het' is all about - carrying the trait but not expressed visually/physically.
Jon is an expert because he's been around long enough to learn what it takes.
lizlady, it looks like you were directing your last post to Jon? If so, where was he rude? I don't see it. Everyone expressed their opinions, nobody was rude about it. Please re-read his post, he just stated the facts, there's no attitude in his post.
