I just got my female bp and i have the tank set up good and i have a heating pad and a red heat lamp should i just use the heat pad at night and the light and the heat pad during the day or what? Also what are the best temps to keep the tank
No one can tell you if you should use the lamp alone or the heating pad alone or both together.
You need a digital thermometer (a must have for ANY reptile owner, period) and measure the temps where your snake will be....he should have a cool side of 78-82 or so, and a warm hot spot on one side of 92-94...those are the temps I use and have gotten good results with.

Please read this forum! (http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49753)
it discusses this exact issue. most use heat pads only, some use both. I think that if you don't want to regulate turning the lamp on and off every day and adjusting the heat pad for when the lamp is on, I would just use the heat pad if you already have one.
Like marisa said, as long as your temps are good, use whatever you like!

you would just need to put spacers inbetween the pad and the tank. It just needs some air flow before the tank.
i often fold up the cover that comes with the pad and put it inbetween.
You only have the heat pad on half of the tank right?

thanx ill try putting the padding between mine and yes my pad is under half or less of my tank. If i was to use a heat light would a dimmer work good with it to regulate the wamout of heat that comes off of it

what about using a high pressure sodium light bulb? Works the same way with a red bulb? Better flow of light?
