Scale counts with pics.

JK had a post about scale counts on one of his coastals on kingsnake, so here's the same info from an IJ. I tried to do this post before but kingsnake said I violated the terms of agreement somehow? weird.. well I'll try this forum.

scale count: 4

nasal scale colour: mostly black, some dark yellow
classic skull and crossbones head pattern.
anterior loreals black? yes, 2/3rds are black.
labial scales in contact with the eye: 2 on either side.

I'm going to do a full scale count of all carpets in my collection all with pictures. I just have to find the time.

What about Jungles?? And how does the scale counts change with hybrids/crosses?

I'll do one with jungles... and JK has some with a coastal.

everybody should do scale counts though.. and post the results here! this isnt something just one person can do, it has to be a joint operation... get alot of people, and alot of info.

more ij's.. jungles.. coastals.. bredli.. diamond.. junglexdiamond... all the crosses... lets see what comes up. who knows what controversy might stir up with these subspecies. there's already a hot debate about the new guinea.. harrisoni vs variegata etc. . irian jaya and locales, or even sublocales. mutations. variations!

Have you read the book Python of autralia vol 1 by the barker? If you like carpet and are interest in scale count, it seems really interesting. I say seem cause I'm having a had time understanding everything since I speack french but it's the best book I have. No idea if the pics of my irian jaya could help but but, here it is...

That is a great pic, thanks for posting it.. it helps too. its scale count is exactly the same. 2/3rds of the anterior loreals are black, and 2 labials under the eye.

Yes, very nice people...keep it up. I have three coastal, three jungles, and a ??cross. I will do tonight. Here is one of the coastals from the other forum. POTW says that jungles should have 2-4 prefrontals and coastals normally have 5 or more. Irian jayas are not covered in that book, and I haven't research variegata. Looks like irian jayas have 4 though.

I have also noticed that the rostral is very different in each carpet I have seen. I don't really know about subspecies similarities, but this could be looked at also.
