Can I use just normal potting soil for the substrate for my uro?? Also does anyone have any pics of their Malis (sp?) so I can see if that is what mine is.

Why dont you post a picture and we will tell you if it is or not? I would use sand instead of potting soil.

Agreed playsand works great with any desert reptile in my opinion:)

Hi!

Check out this web page for pics of most uro species. Malis are most common in the pet trade right now, so it's definitely possible that what yours is. Post pics anyways, though. We'd love to see them! :)

Ok the reason I wanted to know if I can use potting soil is because the petstore was supposed to get some in and they never did. Play sand I can't get any of right now, I'd have to order it in. It'll take a few weeks, so in the mean time I wanted to give it something to dig in and thought potting soil would work for a little while.

Personally, I'd leave him on paper towels until you get the sand. Moisture is REALLY bad for these guys, so the soil may be too moist.

Anyone have other opinions?

Just make sure you have LOTS of hides for him to run to, and he should be ok.

Do you have a Home Depot around? Or a Canadian Tire? Or a Toys R Us? All of these places generally stock playsand, as well as other hardware-type stores...

Good luck!

PS it does look like a young Mali to me.

I actually found a tiny little hardware store that had some in it!! Well Actually my dad did ;) Also is there a size chart to see how old malis are?? Like if it's say 6in then it's 6 months type thing?? I know that every lizard is different but I just kinda want an idea as to how old it is. THe petstore didn't know.
