There is a really mean and nasty Boa at the pet shop where I work. It hisses and bites just about everyone who tries to handle it. How does one go about calming it down so it can be sold?

Any snake in a pet store situation (high traffic area, less than great husbandry, and constant poking and proding) is going to be a challenege to get to calm down...

Because its' current housing is temporary it may not have had a chance to settle in... it should be left alone for a bit, to adjust to its surroundings. After this time period you can proceed to gently handling more regularly...

I'm not sure of the chances of the boa calming down right away, as I said, petstores are a high-stress environment...

Like was said above with that high traffic area it is gonna be hard to get the boa to calm down. Leave the snake alone for a few days but also maybe try to use a hook to get the snake outta the enclosure. You are most likely able to avoid the defensive strike and the snake will then associate people with not being a threat.
