I just got my crestie and Ive posted alot of questions and had some really great answers im pretty sure this is my last question :D The question Is How much Vit D3 Sould I Put in The Apricot Babyfood which is Always availbe in a small dish in my 2 week olds(17 days) tank???Now I know for guys these little Thier really fragile,And i wanna make sure i raise up a healthy hatchling,Like most people I never ever want to run in with Floppy tail Syndrome Or Metabolic Bone Syndrome Or any other things That Calcium Deficiency(sp) Causes,And i hear hatchling are especialy vunerable to that. But then again i dont want to OD the Gecko on vit D3...So how much vit d3 should i add to the baby food,if someone can give me something like ???? grams of calcium in every ???? grams of Babyfood that would be great

NOTE:Only in the dish when i spoon feed ill spoon feed normal babyfood,Its also HIENZ appricot baby food. If it is needed for me to list the ingrediants of both products (Vit D3 and Baby Food Tell me.)

Thanks!

Unfortunatly, I'm the kind of guy that never mesures anything :)

Kind of like the great chefs... only problem I have many years to go throught before becoming a great reptile chef :)

As for your question.

I usualy lightly dust the surface of the baby food drops, then I mix it in.

It's nothing precise, but seems to have worked so far.

You can never ask too many questions :P You're keeping the forum going, anyway. Its been dead lately.

I'm the same as wyz :P Just a pinch, really. I've switched back and forth to liquid calcium and I use a drop of that to a bottle cap of babyfood.

Keep an eye on him and I'm sure you'll be able to sense if you're doing anything wrong...

Is the vitamin d3 part of a calcium supplement or is it on its own?

I use 1 part CGD and mix in 2 parts babyfood and a bit of water...CGD contains all the vitamins you need to add to babyfood including calcium and d3

Its T-Rex vit d3 for Carnivours no thing that starts with the P(think it was Proshphorusor something like that lol), I was thinking it may not be goos because its for carnivores not omnivores ( i have the supplement for my leo) but i do mix it with babyfood...But im getting CGD soon(this week) anyway :D but all i do is sprinkle a tiny bit of the calcium and mix it in. Im not afraid to waste The babyfood though, after a while it goes bad and i have a tiny gecko and a large thing of babyfood(no small ones in the store) also, Id like to know which fruits i can Put in a blender to give to it...I know nothing with citrus but is there any other fruit thats no good for them???Also i heard they like Mango, and ripe Pears alot,Any other suggested foods????

For a hatchling (and for an adult), if using fresh fruit do you have to puree it, just dice it, mash it or just slice it?

I'm going to try some fruits this weekend as well.

In the wild it is believed that they eat ripened soft fruits like fig. I would think that you would want to either puree or mash any fresh fruits as they have very weak jaws.

PDDM - I've been using the formula from the three part article that Vosjoli and Fast wrote for Vivarium magazine in 1999 for almost 5 years now. It goes something like this:
9 parts fruit baby food mixed with 1 part meat (I use chicken) by volume. This is then mixed with a tablespoon of calcium/D3 supplement and one teaspoon of multivitamin per 1000g of fruit babyfood mix.
I feed my hatchlings daily, alternating between baby food and GGD mixed together, and crickets that have been dusted with a calcium/D3 supplement.

Hey dj_honeycuts, what are the issue numbers of those Vivarium magazines? I love to get my hands on them. :)
Thanks

Volume 10 Number 6
Volume 11 Number 1
Volume 11 Number 2
I think these were the last few that Vosjoli published before he sold the rights to Reptiles magazine. It was a sad day when that happened! I've seen these floating around for sale in the states, but usually the person selling them wants stupid amounts of money for them!
