I have an Exo-terra heat pad for my Colombian Red Tail. She is in a rubbermaid container and the problem is the temp is to high. I plugged my heat pad to a reohostat (however you spell it). I put it on low and yet my temps are still over 100 degrees. I put the thermometer under the bedding, ontop of the pad and thats where the temps are reading over 100. Does anybody have any ideas for help. I thought maybe a thermostat would make it work or do you think I will have to buy a different brand of heat pad.

Create a space between the heat pad and the rubbermaid so the heat has some room to disperse. Good Luck!

I lifted the rubbermaid off the ground a lil and that didnt work. I have the pad stuck to the rubbermaid already.
If the pad is stuck to the rubbermaid it is gonna be a pain to get it off. IMO id try to remove it very very very carefully. Most pads once adhered (sp) wont come off to easily. So unplug it and let it cool down and try to remove it gently.
Otherwise you may have to get a whole new rubbermaid and UTH. Good luck.

the rheostat may not be working properly
try and return it for another one
Or just get a better rheostat.

I think it would be easier to pull it off while the glue is hot. I have one that I've stuck on and pulled off several cages, it doesn't stick anymore but it still works. Anyway pull it off and then raise the rubbermaid up on a couple of books and you can use the dimmer in the wall to create mood lighting in your snake room. Rheostats are probably essential in rack systems but for a single cage I think they're kinda redundant.
