Hey..I'd guess that the snake is somewhere around 3-3 1/2 feet long.. not too sure on how old it is anyways, I believe the guy said he had it for about three years, and it was already big.

As i just got the snake last weekend, i've only fed it one rat last night. apparently it will eat anything you offer it.

Could it be possible that this is a cross or something?

That is a lovely snake...my girl Malfoy is only a year old and is 2 feet long now. She is a bit picky, will eat fuzzy things, like hopper mice (stunned or fresh killed only). I had her on rat fuzzies, but she didn't like them as much. But soon, I imagine she will start on something bigger.

As for size, I read that they can get about 6 feet? Thin, not thick as I recall. Anyone know if this is correct?

no, i own 2 spotteds and the biggest a spotted will get is 4 feet maybe if you are lucky 4 1/2 feet. The only way they would get that big is if was mix with another type of python. that is why they are called childs ptyhon as well because they do not grow big. I am not sure where you have read that but i have read i think almost all the care sheet and talked to a few breeder and they all say the same things. me female is 2 feet long and is well over 1 year old and eat like a pig. and my male is 2 1/2 feet long and again over 1 year old and eats like a pig. i would really like to know where you got that info so i could see it.

Actually, the Children's Python Antaresia childreni (Gray, 1842) was named after J.G. Children, an English naturalist of the day. Taxonomy of the entire group is in a state of flux. The Spotted Python is currently recognized as Antaresia maculosa. There are currently specimens in captivity of 175 cm., well over 5'. None have been reported from the wild nearing this size.

look on a care sheet and we are talking about a spotted not a childrens.

I've kept them all back even when they were all simply called Liasis childreni .They have only recently been split up. (maculosis, childreni and stimpsoni). There is no appreciable size difference between maculosis and childreni. They are essentially the same snake from different geographic regions of Aus. It's likely that size varies with bloodlines/geographic orgin.
There are several maculosis blood lines in Canada and at least one of them reaches 5.5 feet. Some blood lines have bigger blotches than others and some have orange eyes and some have gold yellow eyes. There is alot of diversity in the various snakes we now simply call "spotteds"
The ones with gold /yellow eyes seem to get bigger than the orange eye line.
Adult size is also frequently a factor of how many years they live and eat before reproducing, which seems to slow the growth rate.
Craig Stewart(urban gecko) had the biggest spotted I have ever seen and it was a good 5.5 feet. It was also a female he hadn't bred.

Ok, I re-checked the sites and I was wrong, the largest says at max 5', but more usually 3-4'. Sorry about the confussion, I think I got mixed up when I was reading that they are a python similar to a corn snake (in body anyways). I think I read on a message board someone comparing the two, making them sound a lot alike.

What size/type of mouse/rat do you feed your spotty? I feed mine 2 pinkies every week...but I think I need something bigger for him now as he is not growing as fast as he used too. He is thicker than the pinky mice I feed him...but I don't want to give him something "too big." Any help is appreciated :)

I can't speak for anyone else, but my girl is about 2' long now, and takes hopper mice. About 2-3 per week, sometimes she won't take anything for a while, but she's generally a great eater.
