View Full Version : Taming Tokays?
I'm interested in hearing any experiences you all might have had (successful or unsuccessful) in taming Tokay geckos. Just wondering what the odds are of starting with a young one, and ending up with a handleable lizard by the time it's big enough to deliver a significant bite. I've seen tame Tokays, but how rare are these?

i got mine when he was about 5 months old and i handled him for about 10 minutes every-other day. i got him to calm down after a few weeks and now he is like a leo that likes to jump alot lol.

All you have to do is get a young one or baby and handle him 5 days a week, and it should work.
REMEMBER:Like any friendly lizard, they still might bite when they are friendly.

Got mine when they were sub adults and they are EVIL!!!! They would like nothing more than to rip my fingers off my hands when I come around LOL. On the upside, I have no problem getting them to open wide if they need medication :)
If you start handling young you might be ok... Still would not completley trust them though!

I've known tokay adults that are so tame they are used in handling demonstrations with little kids...
I think steady handling and proper husbandry as a hatchling would definately be the best way to get a 'tame' tokay, although I'd still be careful...:D
