Okay, looking for honest opinions/suggestions. This is what I've put together as a temp setup for my new crestie. She's only about 1 month old. How did I do?

Looks great to me. Is that a critter keeper you are using?

Yeah that fine but i found that small crix can escape from them so be on the look out :)

I would recommend that you switch to paper towel substrate, there is always the possibilty that your crestie may choke on loose substrate when he hunts.

I was going to use paper towel, but don't plan on feeding crickets - would I need to still switch?

Are you planning to only feed Crested Gecko Diet? If so that is fine but your cresties growth rate will be slower to that of a crestie who is fed both crix and CGD. Its up to you, either feeding cycle should be fine.

No, I'll be feeding fresh fruit and fruit flavored baby food and using the Gargoyle Diet as a supplement w/ each meal. The breeder said she seemed to eat more of and enjoy the baby food more than the crickets anyway.

You should be fine but like I said before, your crestie will grow slower than one that is eating on crix. Plus watching them hunt is one of the best things of owning a crestie:)

Why aren't you feeding your crestie crickets? They are a great benefit to them on multiple levels. Especially for the youngsters. By adult hood your gecko will relish babyfood and fruit. You're going to miss all the action watching him grow up!

Your set up is great I find cocobark and paper towel great for holding moisture.

I had planned to feed crickets (even created a setup for crickets, etc), but I've been unable to find smaller sized crickets at local stores. They all seem too big - bigger than her little head. Am I right that these are too big? That's why I decided to use the Gargoyle Diet as s upplement over the Crested Diet since it has more protein, and I figured I'd give her crickets when she was big enough for the ones in the petstore. What size would I need for a 19 day old crestie - what's the general size rule?

Thanks!

Also, other than crickets what kind of insects might she eat (now or when she's older). I plan on breeding silkworms and madagascar hissing cockroaches and occasionally buying waxworms and butterworms for my skink and was wondering if I can try any of those with her?

The general rule I believe is the prey item should not be larger than the space between the geckos eyes. You can also try different feeder insects as well, some may get eaten while some may not, every crestie is different. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck!

Thank you all for your suggestions and help. Next month is our breeder's expo reptile show (usually has more vendors than our normal monthly reptile show), maybe there will be a new vendor there that might have some smaller crickets. :)
