View Full Version : Computer Stuff
Okay....
I am not good with computer things...
so I have a question to ask..
lately my stupid Internet Explorer can't download anything.
I tried to download direct x 8.1 from download.com but when I clicked on it is said
"Internet Explorer cannot download DX8INTeng.exe from download.microsoft.com
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either currently unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later"
But when I went on with my other computer, the site worked....
plus I can't download anything from this computer....
Does anyone know why this is????
Please let me know if you know why~~

are u on a network? are you using internet connection sharing or a router? it sounds like it could be your internet at home giving you problems.. if not, it was the server where you were downloading direct x.. find another place to download it.. check mirosoft.com and look for direct x, i think they have it there.. if not, then your gonna have to check your internet settings on the pc in question but i'm not gonna get all into it yet until you try other things...
I think that its my pc settings~
cause I used my laptop to download from the same place and it worked....so I think that its just my desktop that is playing 'tricks' on me....
I am using a router...but that is why I can use both my laptop and desktop to go online at the same time andwhen both are downloading the direct x, laptop can download but the desktop can't.....so that's why its weird....

Well I can tell you it is not your router if your other pc works fine.
I work for a major ISP in the states and it would not be your ISP connection either. Could be your security software if you have any, also I know windows has a setting to disable all downloads.
Hope this helps
Thanks mike and cheryl

lifeline,
Thanks for the reply~
I don't have any security software installed (that I know of) on my computer....
would you be able to tell me where to disable the 'disable all downloads' function?
thanks again!
there's settings in IE for this. also some malware/spyware also prevents you from getting to certain websites.

you could try going into tools on your IE browser and scrolling down to internet options. open the advanced tab and reset to defaults in case you changed a setting at some point. Hey, ity's worth a shot. I'll see if I can dig up any other info on the subject.
Thanks Lisa,
but I the wirdest thing is hat I can go to any web site that I want to..just can't download any thing from the sites....I even tried to reinstall windows and even ie...and it still doesn't work....
sigh....

I have done that too....and still no luck...so I really have no idea
if this continues I'll just have to format my computer and reinstall everything....it just takes a long time....and I hate it....
plus I would have to find storage for my 130GB of pictures, files and documents.......hate it....

Better do a thorough virus scan and spyware scan in the meantime, just in case.
