So this is what happened,

One of my female lavs had done her pre-lay shed 4 days ago, all curled in her lay box with vermiculite in her enclosure. I checked on her this morning, all fine, alert, tongue flicking, pushing me away with her body when I touched her and no eggs. I left for work, came home, did my regular things, like eat dinner, go to the beer store for the friday night slosh, etc, etc. I just went to check in on her to find her limp as a rag doll, I was wondrering what the F#@K is this, I picked her up and she was dead, I screamed, swore, and cursed that whole world heared. Sadly she died egg bound today while I was at work.
She was a beautiful corn, the lighest coloured lav I have ever seen, she was a good healthy four year old adult corn, raised by me from just a youngin baby snake. This sucks, I have never had a snake die on me before, ahh man am i pissed.
If it wasn't for the fact that my other female lav is fat, healthy and full of eggs, I'd flip more than I allready have.
These things sure do throw you curve balls that you never see coming.

THIS SUCKS

oh, you poor thing. that is just terrible! were you able to c-sec any of the eggs? the same thing happened to me once with my fave corn, an amber. luckily i was able to get the eggs, and 2 of them hatched.

Ouch~
sorry about the loss~
but yeah things happen..
I too had a female milk snake phase that was one of the best feeders die on me on egg bound~
She too didn't lay any eggs and just died like that....

Just wondering...
well since you said that she is dead now and that she died of egg bound, did you cut her open to see if the eggs inside are still good? At least a chance that the lav eggs are still good....

Well I cut her open, not sure what I was doing as I have never done this before, I got a few eggs that looked good, 6 to be exact, they are now in the incubator which has been up and running for a few weeks with another clutch in there from a female that usually just throws duds.
They don't look like fertile eggs, alittle yellow, not like the really white ones I have gotten in the past, but I guess you never know right. I'll check in on them in a few days to see how they're going to turn out
man this blows
well to look on the bright side my female ghost is about to do her pre-lay shed

Best of luck with the rest of your breeding, and so sorry about your loss. ANY corn lost is a tragedy... not just because it's the nicest color morph out there.

Allright this is messed up really F$%#@ng good. So the one lav dies on me, and right now, on my daily rounds in the snake room I oopen up the other lav to find her laying eggs (7 huge good eggs so far), no pre-lay shed, no cruisin nothin, man these lavs are throwin me balls I can't even see.
Has anyone had a corn lay without a prelay shed?
All the other corns I have, have had pre lay sheds before laying, like what the f$#k.
Ahh these things are drivin me nuts, last year was so much easier.

Sucks when these things happen when there was no way to prevent or forsee it.

Keep your head up.

Well things do happen~
that is why I put in a nesting box after they have bred. I put them in there until the breeding season is over.

Just incase some odd balls are thrown at me. I have had a lot of weirdos lay eggs at weird time~ so this is what got me prepared~

better luck next year~
good experience, even though learned the hard way~~
