Jungle corn/king pics (again!)

Time on my hands and had to get a few pics of this pair - their coloration is just so intense.

I feel like I need to include a standard disclaimer whenever I post pics of these guys - so for those who are not aware - these are a hybrid snake based on orignal crosses of cornsnake and california kingsnake. These are siblings from a jungle X jungle bred by friends of ours.

oooh they are gorgeous, the and albinos are awesome (yay color, or lack thereof!). Tell me out of curiousity, can you actually entice the differing species to mate or are they inseminated? Do the hybrids themselves respond well to mating with other hybrids?

Artemis - we did not breed the parents of this pair and have never bred jungles ourselves.

These were bred by friends of ours and the parents were two jungle corns that bred together with no inducement.

Many people have different formulas for putting different species like this together (especially corns and kings where the kings might eat the corns rather than breed them), but it seems the hybrids will usually pair up without too many problems.

There are several others on the forum who breed these and they may be able to answer more specific questions, but to the best of my knowledge, insemination is not used in snakes - it is mostly putting two of the same species together and then switching the females when the males are ready to breed.

I personally can't be bothered to attempt to breed species that don't recognize each other enough to breed, I have trouble enough with those that are the same species!

I do like having these though - because they show people the difference between pure species and a hybrid.

Thanks mary! I was mostly just curious, as I know little more about breeding snakes than I do rocket science, and your repsonse definitely gives me a good working idea. Sadly, I dont think Ill ever be able to breed snakes, unless hubby goes first ;)

It's amazing how many people don't like hybrids but do like jungles. I like both myself. lol!

Thanks everyone - I agree - these two sure are striking in their coloration. The female is so calm too - amazes me that she would sit wrapped around your wrist for hours - kind of makes me wonder if it is because she is friendly or just really, really stupid - but she is pretty!
