Hey everyone,
I have come to the understanding that a few people like to use slate as the "substrate" for their leos. I was just wondering where I could find some for myself as I am looking. I would only need scraps, but other things will do as well. Thanks for the help,

Home improvement stores are usually the cheapest.....home depot, moffatt and powell, etc. Aquarium stores also sell slate. Garden centers too.

How close do you live to the river??? Assuming you're not far from a river or can make it to one, or even a creek, and own an oven, it will be much cheaper then buying it!! That's where i get mine..
I used slate tile from home depot, got it in a bargin bin for a buck a square foot. It looks great!

Yah I actually do live near a creek, I shall go check it out today. If I have no luck, then looks like it's time to go to home depot again!

I use ceramic tile for a lot of my tanks. Home Depot always has some discontinued lines. If necessary you can turn them upside down (bottom side up) for better traction if you've got the smooth glazed tiles. Adobe looking ones are the best that I've tried.
