I'm trying to decide between a 48x24x12 or 48x24x18 cage for a male Hog I plan to get in the near future. As you can see the only difference is the height - but being new to Hogs I don't know if he'd make use of the height or would it be 'wasted'? Any opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

It is my opinion that the extra height will be wasted space if space is an issue. We keep our breeeder males in sterilite tubs and the females in 4X2X1 custom enclosures. I am not saying the boa would not use the space, I am just saying it is not neccesary.
Now if you want to show off this animal having a taller cage will both make it more apealing to the eye and easier to see into. I have kept hogs in custom enclosures that were 4ft high by 2ftX2ft and they stayed in the branches most of the time. They thermoregulated by going up or down in the enclosure. It was heated by heat tape on the bottom and a ceramic heat emitter surrounded by a cage at the top. I had a dowel going from floor to ceiling with little dowels branching off. I used fake ivy and plants on the dowels to give it a more "real" look. I thought it looked great and if I had just one boa to show off this is how I would do it.

Thank you - space is only kind of an issue. Of course if I went with the lower height I'd have room to stack another cage on top (There will already be several stacked below it), but of course it's cheaper. It will be a display tank. I want to do what will work out best in the long run, but didn't know how much of a difference 6inches would really make.
