AN AQUARIUM WITH A FULL MESH LID. WHAT CAN I PUT ON THE MESH TO PREVENT HUMIDITY FROM ESCAPING? ALSO CAN ANYONE SEND ME SOME PHOTOS OR IDEAS FOR A HIDE BOX.

I use tupper ware thing with a hole melted for a moist hide.
Might give you an idea. their cheap too.

with my dart frogswhat I do is cover it with either serane rape or just cover it with a plactic cover that I can move around so I can control my humidity.

We cut some plexi glass to fit on top to keep humidity in.

Blocking off the top is a rough way to try and retain the humidity since it hacks the airflow, but if you must cover it, try covering as little as you can with wet towels (towels still breathe to a degree whereas plastic and wood does not).

Some other ways of increasing humidity in a tank are:
*place a large dish of water over the hot spot (assuming you are using a UTH - this method isnt as effective with lights since lights dry the air out)
*use moist hides (these can be as simple as a tupperware container w/ a hole cut out and filled with damp moss)
*live plants added to the vivarium increase humidity to a degree, but should you choose to use these make sure you "quarantine" the plant for 30 days - remove plants from soil, rinse the plants itself (not roots) in soapy water then rinse well and repot the plants, then daily rinse the plant for the remainder of the quarantine.
*misters/foggers work quite well, and waterfalls can also add humidity

I like the old air stone in the water dish if you really want things humid :) plus if you cover the lid and pump air in your not to worried about air flow!

also substrate helps. in our tanks that are filled with mulch (florimulch aka cypress mulch) we see 60 -70% humidity, where the tanks with astroturf reads 40-50% humidity. I've adjusted the humidity in the tanks with astroturf by adding a second water dish that's really shallow and porus and stuck it on the warm side, brings the humidity up to 60-70%.

another thing you can do is take an air pump used for an aquarium and have it pump air into the water dish, this makes the tank some what more humid. or if you've got the space, build a waterfall.

well i should of asked first, what type of reptile/amphibian is this for. This is a must because as Linds was getting at air flow this is refer to snakes/chameleons, I was refering to poison frogs. well if you can tell us that would be great.

cutting a piece of plexi to size will help, just be careful adding vent holes. Vent holes over the heater and at the opposite end will set up a passive solar type airflow.

I alternate between placing a slightly damp towel on top of the mesh, and a piece of leftover plastic I cut off the top of a rubbermaid container. Both keep the humidity in fairly well (70-80%). My only gripe with the damp towel is that it makes the mesh rust..
