View Full Version : Transporting a cham by car

So I am researching a purchase of a male Veiled cham at the upcoming Red Deer show. I live in Saskatoon, which is an approximate 6-hour drive away. The show is Saturday and Sunday. I planned on picking him up Sunday then leaving straight for home. That should provide the least transport time and jostling around therefore less stress. My car has a/c so it won't get too hot driving under an August sun (obviously weather pending). I was planning on borrowing an infrared temperature laser to make sure he's got the right temps. But other than that, I don't know what his needs for transportation are. (Too bad chams can't talk.)

What is required for transport cage?
Covered cage or uncovered cage?
If possible, in the sun or shade?

I haven't been able to locate a thread or a site with such information. So anything you folks can suggest or direct me to would be much appreciated. I want to provide a first class trip to his new home. However, I think I will skip the en route movie and champagne.

Thanks a bunch!!

What you can do is have an enclosure all set up. Maybe place it in the back of your truck? or would it be to hot? If your gonna place it in the car i would set it all up and cover it.

just some suggestions"

mine survived a drive of equal length just fine in the box that it came in with a fake aquarium plant in it

and I'd definitely put it in the shade

he will be fine in what they give u for him it may be small and cramped but he will be safe, just make sure your cage is ready and give him lots of space once u are home dont bother him too much over the next week, keep him outa the sun so he dont cook and your cool,

Beauty, thanks everyone. I am getting excited. Think I'm going to start acquiring materials and begin building his home this weekend. After all, the Red Deer show is a month away.

Cheers!!

Not a possiblity. As I mentioned, I have a car. So the little dude will get to ride in the back seat of my Alero, listening to some Zeppelin whilst rolling down the highway on a Sunday afternoon. Although I suppose not to loud, I don't want to stress him too much.

well i thought to put it back in the truck is cause its dark and cool, and not as stressfull he wont be able to see. But this is a 6 hour drive so i gues there isnt much need to worry.

meow, you must not be thinking of a pickup truck, but some other kind of truck

well what i meant was that all the cars have truks, and at the back seat you can pull it out and you can see the truk. Have i lost you? Some cars dont have it, but mine does. So i was suggesting that you had a enclosure set up and you place the cham there. It will be in the shade, cooler, and still getting the a/c if its on. Its hard to explain

You mean with the fold down seats?? That would be okay.. But even then, the trunk of a car gets VERY warm.. Especially with the sun beating down on it all day.. The back seat of the car would be fine, you have better control of your temps that way..
